108 Mbps RangeMax ADSL Modem Wireless Router.

Is this basically the GTUK on steroids? (6 antennas etc, better coverage?)

Did anybody play with one of these lately? (They are available in SA for around R1150-R1400)..

Please let me know what your findings are? - Does it provide wider coverage? - is continues data throughput much better than a GTUK? - no hangups - no ADSL related connectivity problems?)

I just wanted to know if upgrading from a GTUK to a PNUK would be worth my while, using my HP notebook with internal centrino wireless connection only (meaning not buying a netwear MIMO card as well for the notebook)..

Basically, am I going to benefit from better coverage?
 
u will need the new MIMO card to benefit from the coverage .... it does support the a/b/g networks with the standard cards but then you get the same coverage as before
 
Okay, I played with the PNUK and it does not give better coverage than the GTUK if one uses the internal wireless option on one's centrino notebook.

But who's going to buy a PCMCIA card for wireless if you have a centrino?

Hmmz.
 
I'm looking at getting the DG834PNUK in about 2 weeks when my ADSL line is installed. Is this a good choice? Anyone using it? Could I do any better? Any advice would be appreciated?
 
The PNUK is a good router but in combination with normal notebook you will not benefit anything over a GTUK.

I've tested the PNUK extensively against my GTUK and decided not to change. I've put my GTUK on its side (antenna up) and it gives me the same performance compared to the PNUK with my HP notebook.

Only if you start using the netgear MIMO PCMCIA card (and switch off your internal centrino-driven wireless option) you _may_ benefit on coverage. I haven't tested this.

I wonder if HP will ever incorporate the 6-antenna system into their notebooks ever..

Anyways, if you are about to switch off the internal option on your notebook and plug in a PCMCIA card, why not put in a 802.11N compatible card and get netgear's Rangemax Next's router? --> that may benefit speeds! (300 mbit speed with extended range!)
 
Well currently I have no router/modem. My adsl line is being installed end of august, and im trying to decide on an adsl modem/router to buy. I have no internal option on my HP notebook. Its almost 3 years old now. Currently I have 3 external gigabyte wireless dongles (54mbps) to link my 3 machines at home. So if I get the PNUK or the GTUK it makes no real difference to me now. But im thinking of the future if/when I upgrade. So I would rather go for the PNUK over the GTUK for an extra R220, but Im wondering if its a good buy. Or if there are other modem/routers, eg billion or something, that is better at a similair price range. Don't want to spend R1200 and find out that the Netgear PNUK is actually no good.
 
Okay, if you want a Netgear, I recommend the GTUK. Other makes will do the job for less money, I'm sure.

The GTUK is perfect in all respects, except in the looks department; with its queery-mirror-faced and merry numbered multicolour flashing activity light indicators..
 
I was almost gonna buy the netgear DG834GTUK, but then i discovered many people having problems with overheating. Since im in dbn, thats not good. So instead i opted for the billion 7202GR2. Which actually was a better choice because of Qos, i can prioritise my bandwidth so i dont have to stop downloads while playing online. If you dont sleep near your router then get the d-link g604t, excellent but makes an irritating hiss.

it surprised me with Lots of cute blue flashing lights.

But to the facts: Well it's sending signals through 2 thick chimney walls.
and works for another 10 metres indoors thereafter. Quite impressive, but needed a proper Rangemax USB dapater on the computer for good connection.

if you move the router by a meter, everthing changes: your wireless range gets completely affected.

Make sure you don;t set up a router close to a Main power DB or your range will be reduced drastically.

if you don;t have 3phase you can also use the power cable repeaters.
otherwise works great as an ADSL modem.

You can update its firmware for even better range and performance.
