Cape Town Power Cuts/Loadshedding??

Has anyone been affected by these scheduled outages yet?? My area(Tamboerskloof) is due for a cut tomorrow between 6 and 8 30pm. Am just wondering whether or not to take this seriously??

I've been scheduled to be down 4 or 5 times now already, but it hasn't happened once yet.
 
i was told the electricity in hbay would be off from 6-9pm tonight...
traumatised ppl (including me) were rushing around buying candles, etc.

and nothing happened .. lol

You should definitely give your heater a miss - get a gas heater or use candles. Who is going to be the lucky person? When they flick the switch there will be a massive power failure. Flick - crash - Uurgh!!

me has just turned tv on - after 10pm methinks.
 
Friends of mine couldnt care if there was a problem, they believe Eskom should be better prepared. They are using power as normal

Yeah - well there you go - ozone layer be damned.

/and they weren't better prepared were they? And they're not are they?! Therefore - switch off the light - wasting power - and your 'friends' have obviously got no concept of 'reduction' or 'responsibility.' No problem with money though.

eish .. some ppl are just too thick to understand that sometimes it's necessary to make a small sacrifice in order for everyone, including themselves, to benefit in the end

hope their power goes out during the night and they have to take cold showers in the morning :D

Actually read a report today (cannot find it now) that reckons the Ozone should return to normal in about 50 years time?

I agree with you on the point KIlo.
Those guys could help a little. It isn't too much to put timers on Geysers or Switch off the heaters this winter.
However they have a point, as the public nowadays has to worry about so many things and now have to think for Eskom as well.

Personally I enjoy working with Electricity and have spent a few Grand in the last couple of months putting in UPS units, fitting timers and rewiring my Electrical Distribution Board to even the load.
Nobody has been around with Free Low Energy Bulbs so I fitted a whole bunch of those as well.
I found the family don't know how to switch off lights in the house, especially the bathroom and toilet so now they can burn with low energy bulbs.

Yeah I've seen the bit on the ozone hole. But I've also seen the bit on the icecaps melting -. I agree we shouldn't have to make allowances for eskom (that irwin dog liar) - (same way as we shouldn't have to live with telkom) -. Would like to know more on the electricity issue, but not. Me run all energy bulbs - switch off the tv if nothing on, etc. - all money saved goes to telkom. It's a bad habit leaving lights on - every unneeded light adds to the smog level - or the amount of nuclear waste. Every time you switch on the tap - yes really - the dam gets a bit lower. It's a bit like throwing sh#t on the ground - it soon looks like a pigsty - then people wonder why.
