Cape Town - A 16-year-old boy from Tygerberg, Cape Town, was raped on a school rugby tour, but authorities did nothing, Die Burger newspaper reported on Thursday.

The attack, which took place on March 17 between pupils of a high school in the city, was filmed on cellphones and widely distributed. It appeared to be part of initiation proceedings.

The victim's mother told Die Burger that the Edgemead High Schools' first team rugby had camped near Velddrift on the West Coast, and played a rugby match against a local school.

The boy was allegedly raped with a broom handle and a banana later that night.

:wtf:

gees, and this is the school that I went to. Good thing Rugby was around then lol

Saw this. I have no words :(

No charges was laid cause no medical was done

Temporarily suspended.

What a bloody joke - they should all be in jail

Rugby jocks - not the brightest people in the world.

They act like this because theyre treated like hero's.they think they can do anything. when i was in school one of them just walked upto a guy and punched+ kicked him in the face, knocking his head against a wall and knocking the other guy out.the reason?the other guy mentioned to someone hes not afraid of the jock.nothing happened to the perp.this happened a few times at one of the best schools in the WC. a ******* joke.

I think initiation is part of growing up - but it has to stop somewhere. to draw a phallic object on someone or a bit of toothpaste in ones nose can be seen as boyish fun, but to rape someone is considered psychotic. I really think the coach should have done something

Brandon Grant who was the teacher on the tour needs to be fired and banned from any jobs dealing directly with children for his role in this. In my opinion Brandon Grant is a paedophile.

If there is video evidence of this the family needs to launch a civil action against the parents of the children responsible and Edgemead high school.

Im still trying to figure out what kind of person would even wanna go there... :wtf: I mean, how the hell does each oke spread a but cheek and the other grabs the broom??

bloody sick world we live in

Something worries my about the apathy of the mother here... she spoke to her son and the assailants the night BEFORE the rape took place and must have known that trouble was brewing. Why didn't she come (guns-blazing) to fetch his son the very moment!!!!

If my son called me at night to say that a group of hostile boys were harassing him. I'd be there in a flash brandishing my knobkerrie...

Sick, sick, sick - complete beyond my ability to comprehend - where the hell was the teacher - who was supervising.

Barbarians!

HTF does this not lead to criminal charges?

You cannot blame the parent - this was a supervised school trip.

OTOH, you're damn right I would have been there in addition to dragging the principal with me under threat of legal action.

Only of the initiation. Not of what happend later.

and that's the problem with allowing ANY kind of initiation - it's the thin edge of the wedge and leads kids to believe that it's OK to degrade and demean - from thereon in it's a slippery slope (anyone remember Kamp Staaldraad)

Initiation is an outdated barbaric practise imported from the colonial British School system

that happens every winter in our country when they chop off peepee skin. Initiation is part of African culture as well.
