Why?Well my brother has a Sony and I have an LG. We will both tell you the same thing: GO FOR THE LG!!!
Just came back from DionWired at Kollonade, Pretoria. I wanted to buy the LG 47. All sold out, even display units. Apparently also sold out at every store closeby. Damn, the search continues. I then went to Game at guess which tv stood out against all the others, the Hi-sense 42 LED. Yeah. They were showing the GP in HD. Great display, very sharp and bright. I must be honest, for a pleb like me, all the damn sets looks the same, except I could see the telefunken was sub-standard. The salesman said they have a lot of comebacks on telefunken too. The plasmas seemed no more reflective than my CRT at home, even with the bright lights in the shop. (something which concerned me from the thread in this forum). The plasma also looked good in HD, although less bright (could be settings). Conclusion, will look for any 46/47 led ?(except telefunken) or 51 plasma at R6000 and buy it and never visit a tv thread again!
The problem is that those TVs are all on Dynamic Contrast mode, a setting you should never use in your home, where they pump out white/contrasty colours, while sacrificing details and clarity within the colours. This process makes the TVs look much better to the undiscerning viewer, particularly under shop lighting, which is why LED-LCDs are incorrectly regarded as the "best". The ideal viewing conditions are dim, which is why buying on the basis of TVs on demo mode in a bright store, is very bad. Put them in a dim room, entry LCD vs entry plasma, plasma will win.
I hear you. The LED TV's in the vicinity of the Hisense was LG,Samsung,Sony,JVC,Sinotec and Telefunken. The Sony and Hisense LED as well as the samsung plasma pq "seemed" superior to all the rest. Let me put it this was, I wouldnt mind the "no name brand" Hisense set in my house. I am unfortunately on a budget, R6000, thats it. Which limits my options, but also helps in narrowing down the search I guess.
Do you have any experience with Hisense?
