Cheer The Beloved Country

Good article
I honestly believe he is one of the best if not the best journalist in this country, I try not to miss his article weekly. He is like a compass on issues going on in SA.

Its a nice article but he does tend to only present the good that has happened.

Race is no longer a factor that determines where one will live, work, play and be buried. Complexion is no longer an element that determines who one can marry and how much one earned, regardless of qualifications.

This isn't really true. Can people of all races apply for any job and be considered only on talent and experience and not on race. No.

There are good parts and bad parts of SA and they should be considered equally.

icyrus : Well, given that your education and experience are good, then yes (Except for Government companies and those that do business with them). I have never come accross anybody who didn't get a job they applied to (But then again, I am only 25)

So you say yes, but mean no - you even admit that the answer is no. There should be no jobs anywhere that are chosen on race.

Race will always be an issue here if government keeps making it one.

I have been bluntly told before: "Even though you are the best candidate for the job, you do not fit into framework of the Affirmative action policies employed by the company"

icyrus : Fair enough. When discussing something like this (constitution etc) one should deal in absolutes

kingmonty : Are you sure the company doesn't have contracts with the government or related?

"It is a good document. Perhaps too good. Some say it puts more emphasis on citizens' rights rather than their obligations."

Interesting. Never heard this been said before...

Example: It may be the right of the robber not to be shot while stealing something, but its his obligation to not steal in the first place!! Thats how we should look at the consitution when dealing with crimes.

They did not. I did not fit the racial profile. In any event, whether there are government contracts in place or not, it is irrelevant when they are selecting a candidate to perform a job when the candidate is not the best one available.

Go cry to those who brought about discrimination because it's them who necessitated Affirmative Action.

No they didn't. Its not necessary even though you may think it is.

If you divide people by race, they will always be divided.

No, you need to be realistic, South Africa is not the first country to have AA.

so ppl have a problem with the AA, what do u guys suggest be done then? have whites in high positions whiles there are blacks who were not given the opp, before.

lets not be selfish here lets let the blacks enjoy abit of an advantage aswell but lets give it a time frame and than we can start operating normaly
