Laptop purchases (preferably deals!)

Hi guys,

I am familiar with the places to check if you are wanting decent prices on desktop computers and components but I am totally out of the loop when it comes to laptops.

Can anyone provide suggestions on where to track down bargains, or even just decent pricing, on laptops? I am Durban based so that will be preferably (although willing to get an idea of prices country wide) or online outlets.

Thanks, I just had a peek there earlier and unfortunately as you state they mainly cater for the high end. This is to be a work laptop for an assistant so at most I would be looking for an i5. I was hoping for about the R5k - R6k price range too.
 
Laptopdirect, Makro, Incredible Connection, Takealot, Nivo, Ikonic IT, HP Shop, ZA Store (Apple products) and Purple Fly Trading.

I recommend stuff off Laptopdirect usually because they have the biggest range, and their mark-downs are quite good when there's a sale on. Purply Fly usually undercuts with specific brands and HP Shop has way cheaper prices for the Envy range.

For R6000 as a work laptop:

MSI CR640 @ R6126
HP Pavilion G6-1270SI @ R5647
Lenovo Ideapad Z570 @ R6189
Samsung Q530 @ R6132
Toshiba Satellite C660-S1P8 @ R5877
Toshiba Satellite R850-115 @ R6372

My vote goes for the Samsung Q530 or the Toshiba R850, both sporting discrete cards. The Lenovo's a stronger build though, and would last longer compared to other plasticky chassis.

That GT520 still makes me cringe, especially in a laptop costing R7000 that could have easily fitted in a Core i7 and a GT555M or GT630M into that price + R500. Make no mistake, its a good machine and a solid build, but its not better value for money.
