A list of Ad Companies for sites (and another really random question)

Me and my friends are planning to make a website soon. We will host the site on godaddy (unless if there is any other cheaper and better place I could use, please state it here.)

I would like to know what places offer you to publish ads on your site for $$? I Know about google adsense and addynamo. What are the pro's and con's to this? Can you also control content that is advertised on your site? Also, How much do they pay per click??

But Wait, there is more.....

I would also like to know what is the best free / open source forum software for websites running PHP 5 and MySQL and what can you do to avoid spam?

Your starting at the wrong end of things, you need visitors to get those ads clicked, to get visitors you first need and awesome site... Now tell me how much a blank forum filled with ads appeals to you? The CPC depends on the popularity of the site, myBB gets over a million unique visitors a month, so having a banner on their main page is going to cost you big bucks but if you arnt getting any visitors and your PR sucks, you'll be lucky if you even manage 50c per click...

Once your getting around 100k unique visitors per month I'd say it's time to look at advertising. Until then, focus on making people want to come to your site. A forum isn't the easiest thing to get going, rather have a meaningfull blog which can be debated on the forum...

It's going to be WAY less than 50c per click. You will be lucky to get 10c per click.

Their hosting is cheap because it sucks, any site that will be pulling enough visitors to sell advertising won't load on their shared hosting services. You'll need to look at a VPS or a dedi which will set you back a few bucks each month but at least you'll have good latency and performance which is very important.

Also keep in mind that you can get a search/month estimate from google on how many searches for a keyword or phrase they handle per month both locally and internationally

This will give you a good idea of traffic you could potentially get.

SEO sounds like a good thing to start with, there are some good videos on the subject published by google, if you can find them
