Cell C cuts international call costs to 99c

New prices from Voda later today, while MTN keep their heads secured up their asses

With Telkom to call a mobile in the UK it's about R2.50 per minute. Nice one, Cell C!

Yeah and then they will probably release a statement 7 minutes later explaining that there was a misunderstanding and that the new rates will only be applicable to the first 11 users that buy a R900 recharge voucher between 2 and 3am on the 8th of July who are on the yebo-midnight-call-less-for-more package. It's ridiculous that Cell C, a start-up of only a couple of years ago is now setting market trends with the big guns trying to keep up but backtracking or doing nothing when they realise that there will be 50c less for booze at the year end party. After a nice long 9-year stint of getting nothing of value at Vodacom, my next one will be with Cell C. When will they ever learn we are just tired of the smoke and mirrors and want normal no crap no fuss good prices without all the gimmicks. Cell C FTW!!!!

A very good move by CellC however HelloMobile (from CellC & Telestream) the costs are even lower than 99c.

Kudos to AKN. Many said he was all talk and no action. Good to see that CellC is trying to keep things simple. Seems CellC and Capitec Bank are the the only companies in their sector that are simplifying the cost structure for the consumer! All the others hide behind confusing and complicated pricing mechanisms that only serve to enrich themselves.

Agreed - correct me if I am wrong but my recollection the past 2 years is that any aggressive offering by Vodacom has been on the back of an initiative from CellC or 8ta.I realise Vodacom has a business to run but the perception is that shareholders interests are paramount and customers are a mere afterthought.

“We are not using VOIP, but pure circuit switching ensuring the best voice quality possible. Once again, we are offering the most competitive non-VOIP rate in the market with no hidden costs or any ambiguous terms and conditions. Any of our customers, whether they are prepaid, hybrid, or postpaid will automatically be billed at the new rate. No special or new sim card is required,” says Cell C CEO Alan Knott-Craig.

And this is what customers want. No confusing games, guessing the rate, and confusing conditions. I'm looking at you MTN.

This is a great start AKC. Keep this up and my next contract will be with you.

Nice one Cell C!!! Back on track with the innovation after the post-Lars wobble... I am LOVING the new plans so far. AKC, keep it up:)

Unfortunately it is a limited time promotion. Why not do it as standard pricing?

Did you not follow the VC 99c debacle? You can't just change your price, you have to register intent with ICASA, then they must approve etc. Unless it is a promotion, in which case you can do it immediately. So, Cell C have started it as a promotion while they are still sorting out agreements (note they are going to add 16 more destinations) before they apply for the new standard price.

Cell C, to further the coup try sort out some reasonable roaming rates, at least for foreigners coming here as a start. Sure you will have some takers as we get a lot of German and UK tourists and swallows that would welcome a reasonable roaming rate and may choose their local provider based on this (say you do a deal with T-Mobile, they will get loads of German customers who often come here).

cant seem to find any mention of this on the cell c website.
Does anyone have a link?

Good move and no leaks from ICASA!
