Fixing South Africa's Internet: what you can do

WTF? Nothing in there about nerfing Telkom? I seem to remember many good points re them in the discussion on this forum that those guys were supposed to be listening to.
 
From what I can see, this has more to do with LTE and wireless spectrum than anything else. C'mon guys, what about fixed line?

I thought it was a summary of the main points of the report. Either way, our article's missing a rather important piece of information (what, if anything, did the report say about Telkom?). I know we're not the Mail and Guardian here, but come ON, is it too much to expect at least a modicum of journalism?

Again, this has nothing to do with the opinions posted on MyBB at the invitation of dominic (Ellipsis). It is the World Wide Worx research paper...

Research firm World Wide Worx unveiled its “Internet Matters: The quiet engine of the South African economy” report at an event in Johannesburg today (29 May 2012).

Managing director of World Wide Worx, Arthur Goldstuck, said in a statement accompanying the report that they didn’t just report the results, but offered recommendations it hoped would assist in the continued growth and development of SA’s Internet economy.

OH, that's a different research company. My bad, I thought this was that report.
Well, doesn't say much for World Wide Worx, that they didn't mention Telkom (unless our article never included that bit, in which case, see my previous point)
 
I don't agree with anything he says and he also does not come across as impartial. That guy charges about R20K to R40K per hour for a speech that journalists laps up in which he just regurgitates from his own narrow unscientific research. He has no idea what ordinary South Africans needs. If a junior journalist posted that article then everyone would moan yet when a self appointed expert does we are not supposed to.

Writing what is wrong with what he says is everything. His focus seem to be LTE and not just that but the fast rollout of LTE and for just all the cellular towers to be upgraded immediately that will add significant cost for the cellular providers to factor into their costs to charge consumers. Does this guy know about caps. Current your average users fixed line speed line is no way near current average cellular data speeds so making cellular speeds faster is not the problem. Reliability might be an issue but not speed. On LTE I would be able to hit a R1 million rand bill per month if I am on a contract if I don't monitor myself.

The rest of his points I don't even want to get into.

You get lies, damn lies and Athur Goldstuck. He is the Malema of telecoms and needs to stay a million miles from any policy makers.

This is not unusual for Goldstuck tbh...

I'm not saying he loves Telkom, but his reports and surveys and such (for me) always seem to leave out massive things, or make random and ridiculous conclusions.
 
I've been saying from the very beginning that this guy is a complete bafoon . . . why they even afford him a platform to dribble upon is entirely beyond me . . .
