The data cards will only be coming out once 3G & HSDPA have been launched and from what i hear it may happen in December. But how ever the EDGE/GPRS USB modems are Available in all Cell C stores it will retail for R1300 or free on a 500mb and above package. It works better then a data card and is easier to use because it plugs into any computer with a USB port

I am not sure the make of the USB EDGE Modems because i haven't looked for the make and model. just tested it and i am getting 29 KB/s - 203 kbps.

Can these modems support 3G and HSDPA when it arrives? Isn't there any more specific dates when the 3G will be launched?

No, The USB modem only supports EDGE/GPRS/GSM but when 3G and HSDPA are launched there will be data cards like MTN & Vodacom.

The USB EDGE Modems are manufactured by Data Logic.

There is no set date for 3G but it will be by the end of the year.

I'd want some guarantee that I can get a cheap or free upgrade to a 3G modem.

Cellc are not 3G HSDPA ready yet , but once ready will kick MTN and Vodacom`s network of the Map.
DO you know why Vodacoms HSDPA is so "great" well they use better Datacards than the previous 3g cards ...

Vodacoms 3G/HSDPA is not "great". I live in a 3G coverage area but only get 1bar 3G and 90% of the time only GPRS/EDGE.
