I am so fed up with Telkom trying to screw me as usual.

On 3 May I apply for a 3 GIG account.

Today the bill comes and they charge me R218 ex VAT whatever from 14 April to 12 May or something + a further charge till 14 June.

I phone and cancel my 3 GIG account immediately just cause I refuse to be screwed for 2 weeks I never even had access. I get home and I cannot access the net. I seemed to be cut already.

WTF ?

I must pay for 2 weeks no access and till 14 June when I've only used the account for 14 days ???

F U Telkom !!!!!!

I give up.

I will be at their customer services office first thing Saturday morning !!!

Was hoping to at least rape my 3 GIG account now I won't even get a chance. Back to SAOL 10 GIG I guess.

You never really get to rape telkom. In the end it is always you who ends up in a compromising position with ur pants around ur ankles..

Ain't that the truth.

If our rates were anything like overseas I would have at least an extra R600 - R800 in my pocket each month :(

I'm spending the following for ADSL:
R80.95 (phone line rental) + R314.91 (ADSL line rental)....Hey wait hold me horses..... the invoice says these are excluding VAT, so let's start that again shall we:
R92.28 (phone line rental) + R359 (384k ADSL line rental) + R299 (SAOL 5GB) + R65 (OpenVPN - circumvent shaping) = R815.28 per month (just for ADSL - excluding phone calls and exceeding cap)

I'm probably going to exceed my cap this month so add R69 from SAOL for another 1GB. Also, add in my telephone calls which is between R150-R360/mo.

So in total, I can expect to pay: R815.28 (for ADSL) + R69 (for extra 1GB) + R150 to R360 (for phone calls) = R1034.28 to R1244.28 for the month.

This can be used for new car payments, but alas I can't afford them in conjunction with ADSL thanks to Telkom.

P.S. It's really a niche market considering the 1Mbps, 10GB+ users out there. They must be forking out thousands.

P.P.S. At the current rate (R6.4:$1) to US dollars that equates to: $160 to $193 for the month. In the US you pay like $20-30 for unlimited broadband and telephony for the month. Just shows you how Telkom is ripping us off!

Wow, what do u spend on dsl a month then??

Telkom 384K ect line average R450 / month
SAOL 10 GIG R499 / month

10 GIGs is never enough. Usually spend R299+ on extra bandwidth.

So yeah R1000-R1300 / month ... even my bond is R1085/month. I shouldnt be paying ore than R250/month for my current setup IMO.

R92.28 (phone line rental) + R359 (384k ADSL line rental) + R249x2 Telkom 3Gig Shaped Accounts = R949 and between the 2 DSL accounts every month, i get out about 50Gigs per month.

I don't use my phone line for ANY phonecalls, not even receiving. I hear the phone ring all the time at work, so don't want to hear it at home.

Yea i hate Telkom, Yea i hate the price i pay, Yea I just love the Gigs i'm getting over the 6Gig i'm supposed to "Only" get. Who cares!

Good bloody luck - last time I was in their abominable "service" centre, it took almost an hour to accomplish jack. That was 29 April 2006 and I am STILL waiting for the "helpful" "customer centric" "service" centre to call me with a resolution.

As said before, DO NOT USE TELKOM unless you cannot help it.

92.28 (phone) + 680.00 (1mbit) + 199.00 (3gig saix) + 2 * 175.00 (2gig IS) = 1321.28 without calls

My second IS account isn't going to last till the end of the month (29 gig so far), so I'll probably have to get one of those 10day uncapped local accounts.

1420.28 a month. Seriously considering dumping the lot and getting a better car/apartment.

Nah, just me at home. Guess I'm slightly addicted.

Indeed. Why u have the 1meg line? Do u need that much speed? Apparently, a 512 line is better value for money as it often runs not that much slower than a 1meg line, and the download speed is 256k on both lines...Maybe you could save some money that way?

Well, I registered on MyAdsl the day I first encountered the dreaded cap. At the time a 512k line cost the same as what 1mbit costs me now. A few months later I downgraded to 384, but Telkom didn't drop my speed (still got 56KB/s down).

When they finally dropped me to 40KB/s, I figured why not pay what I did in the first place and get 110KB/s instead. It's quite nice to start downloading a 1.4 gig movie at 5 in the afternoon and watch it at 9 that night. (erm, I mean Linux ISO... ;))

Anyway, I agree that it's overkill, but if I don't download I really have no reason for having ADSL at home. I can always troll forums/check e-mail at work (like now, hehe).

Still undecided, it's not like I'm starving but there are many better ways I could spend that money.

What's not so nice is downloading two movies, I mean Linux ISO's and getting capped afterwards. ABUSE! :D
