Telkom, KT deal rejection will cost jobs says DA

I spoke to a retired Telkom manager over the weekend and he seems to think that they may be favouring the Chinese company Huawei?????

Telkom is working perfectly well as a job creation vehicle thank you very much. The comrades deployed into top management positions enjoy enormous salaries and bonuses, we don't plan to change anything.

Had an 8ta technician come over to the house to "sort out" my poor download speed. He told me that the KT Corp technicians are working hand in hand with the Telkom guys but they don't divulge any tech info when asked. Does this mean that they will be pulling out of RSA now? Does anyone know what 8ta's TCP rate is or their Contention Ration on their network? That is for the promo deals which run exclusively on the 8ta network and not piggy backing off MTN. Been with 8ta since Sept last year and everything worked beautifully until 2 months ago - network sucks now. Major degradation as the day progesses into evening and weekends suck to. Thanks
 
If this government is serious about creating jobs, it needs to do all it can to grow the economy by attracting international investment and rolling out a world-class ICT infrastructure.

What we've learned from the ANC during the last 17 years ..

1) It's never been about actual jobs it's just a convenient slogan to use for political gain, much like they use "the poor".
2) It's also not about attracting international investors either, 'who needs them' has always been the African mentality.
3) They will protect Telkom's monopoly at all costs, despite saying they intend otherwise.
4) Government is not even spending enough on ICT for African-class, never mind world-class.
5) They're a greedy bunch so anything diluting their shareholding will put them off, never mind the good it can do for the country.
 
Koreans? Wouldn't that create an issue with our Chinese ties? :)

KT will be fussy at who they allow at the feeding trough!!!!!!!!!!!
 
In my view, government's pullout may have something to do with KT reducing the initial offer to purchase 20% shares in Telkom. It does not make sense that cabinet allowed the talks to progress this far if they knew they were not ready to sell. Any business person would rethink the decision of selling a business at an offer that is lower than what was initially offered, despite using the pending fine on Telkom (which has not been finalised) as the reason for reducing the purchase offer. It may be best to consider other possible buyers going forward than to make an hasty decision by selling cheaply.

The other reason could be that KT may have rejected the plan to expand broadband to the underdeveloped parts of SA. This coupled with a lower purchase offer is enough reason to put on hold the sale.

As much as we all know that Telkom is not performing well, I would rather support cabinet's decision this time around. Telkom now needs to prove they can turn the company around to make it attractive for sale.
