Vodacom, 3G is awful since may 2012

Hi

Ever since vodacom has shaped BB i have the worst problems with my 3g dongle. when using the internet, I can browse quickly, but then all of a sudden, every page stops loading, errors pop-up and connection is slower than a gprs line. Online games is useless, getting dc'd every minute. And no 3g is not useless for gaming as I always enjoyed it before this "anti-abuse" **** came out. My question to you is, am I the only experiencing these problems, or is this a general problem.....
 
Vodacom is throttling the BIS service only...and that only applies to people that is abusing that particular service. The reason for that policy is to give the majority of the BIS users a better experience seeing that the abusers are the minority. Crap..that came out sounding like a political statement. Anyway....it would be to Vodacom's detriment to throttle 3G connectivity as a whole as our speedtest.net etc avg would plummet and would create a overall bad impression for people that looks at that kind of thing.

This could very well just be a localised problem on your tower. Have you logged the call with 08155 or [email protected]? If so, VodacomData has always been pretty good at taking the ref numbers and seeing what is the problem and what is being done about it.

I did email them using the website, but when I clicked on send the connection went to its usual unable to find address problems. But I hope it went through. If I did not hear anything from them in a few days I will just email them.

You will receive a almost instant response with a ref number to let you know your mail was received. You can then expect a response via email from a agent withing 24 - 48 working hours.
 
Might be a bigger problem. Vodacom signal in JHB CBD is bouncing around and bad 3G connection.
 
Similar problem out here in the sticks (NW province, near Rustenburg): 3G connectivity, once excellent, has been up and down like a yo-yo over the past couple of weeks, with dropping connections and slowing down to a crawl several times during the day. Might be a local problem (too many users on the Buffelspoort Dam tower), or as suggested, a more central issue.
 
Also have a problem in lichtenburg. I am connected on 3G or HSDPA with minimum 2 bar strength but web pages dont open etc. Checked my ping on tuesday on pingtest.net.
Results: Ping- 2314ms jitter- 1233ms. It was normally around 60 and 21 IIRC. Made a fuss on their facebook page because their customer service operators all says its my problem. Well its not. I have 3 of those data contracts and on all sticks on my pc and Gfs laptop same problem. asked around and lots of people has the same problem.
One of vodacoms technicians phoned me earlier and says they are aware of problems but dont know when it will be resolved.
So my battlefield3 experiance is non existing.
 
I got throttled after downloading a 99 mb file using my BlackBerry. So sad... I'm lucky if I get 6kbs in the normal blackberry browser and for a page to actually load without a Communication error..

Hahaha! Serves you right :P I'm only joking. :)

My BIS is like that all the time. Just use wifi, the difference is staggering.

No wifi at home... I'll move over to some different service provider end of the month. Then chose which is best.
 
The vodacom guy I talked to today said they're not throttling the BIS users... So now I'm clueless on why BB 3G is super slow.
 
I get on average 2-3Mbps at home in Cape Town on Vodacom's 3G network.

Travelled to JHB today (Melrose, Monte & Randburg) and received between 5 & 8Mbps average on VC 3G. Definitely not the entire 3G service awful. Just BlackBerry...

Some places are over subscribed, your expererience just proves it.

Also its not Blackberry. You still use your internet to transfer data through BIS. It's Vodacom's pipe to Blackberry that is congested.

Really? Then why is it vodacom are the only ones giving absolute kak bis? What do MTN have a bigger pipe? More pipes? And don't tell me its because voda have more subscribers.
This abuse crap vodacom are spewing must surely also be happening on other networks and more so now as they throttle everyone.
IMO its vodacom and their crap network

I never said Vodacom were not throttling people either and their network is crap. :mad:
 
There's deffinitely something going on with the BIS service. Using direct TCP/IP gets me lovely speeds but BIS is just a fail.
