Scrap police watchdog, says Selebi

CAPE TOWN — National police commissioner Jackie Selebi yesterday took aim at the police watchdog, the Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD), saying that it had outlived its usefulness. He said the institution could be dissolved, leaving the South African Police Service (SAPS) to police themselves.

Yah right. The last figures I saw (2 years ago?!) there were more people dying in police custody than ever under the Apartheid regime.
 
Let them remain accountable to the public. Official bodies that try to scrap watchdogs are usually trying to hide something.
 
Doesnt surprise me at all, they want to hide something, they've done something.

Cos in the past the cops have always been on top of everything. Oh what champions they are. Police themselves, how they cant even police the country how the fecken hell are they going to keep there own house in order.

And if someone had to come forward with a complaint it would just end up getting thrown back in ther face. ARGH! THESE PPL DRIVE ME INSANE
