Nintendo pins hopes on Wii U

Nintendo bets big on Wii U

Nintendo Co Ltd will launch a console with a dedicated “Super Mario” game title for the first time in 16 years as the struggling Japanese company hopes its new Wii U will score the rave reviews that helped make its predecessor the world’s biggest gaming hit...
 
I like the wiiU, you can play on the controller while the wife watches 7de laan.
Thats good and well. But if its not alot faster Cpu & Gpu wise than the xbox 360 or playstation 3 its going to get left behind by 3rd party hardcore franchises when the next xbox and ps is launched.

We don't know the specs and without that you cant really tell if its "next gen" or just current gen. I don't want to buy current gen at the end of this year or beginning 2013, I could buy current gen in 2005 already. Casual gamers might not mind current gen but then casual gamers have tablets and smartphones already they don't really need to spend more money on hardware to get casual games

I think they'll make it, as usual. Even the Wii was low on specs and it sold more units than PS3 and Xbox 360. I had a Wii and now own a Xbox 360, although I enjoy the xbox, I do miss the Wii's fun factor and party games. Xbox is more serious, sometimes too serious.

Thing is the Wii was low on specs but it wasn't a whole generation behind. We don't know the specs of the WiiU but if its on par with current gen its already 7years old!
 
I must say it looks pretty awesome.

Ten times better than the Wii ever was.

That ZombieU trailer looks really good. I can see some really tense moments developing.

I think actually having a touch screen keypad will be awesome. Especially when it doesn't stop the zombie's march.

I can't wait to see a proper RPG with a touch screen inventory management system and touch screen spell casting.

Priorities priorities mister! I'm just thinking about the, BOOOM headshot... and well the mouse is best for that :p
 
I had a good experience with gyroscope controls for FPS gaming with NOVA3 recently on the iPad2. Quite immersive actually. The games that impressed me where Pikmin3 and Nintendo Land. Pikmin3 has some stunning animation and you could tell Miyamoto was quite enamoured with the game design. Nintendo Land can be a system seller.

For gameplay ideas, I'm not sure how useful the touchscreen controller really is. But the idea of flipping a game to the handheld on the fly is awesome, or using it as a home theatre remote. I'm waiting to see how they'll price this - rumours of $400 are just too high for me.

That's still 30% cheaper than the launch price of the PS3. That's without taking inflation into account.

Well its got HD and from the demo's it looks like it can keep up with the Xbox and Ps3. I think the big question is... what will "Next Next" gen be ? PC is not that much father away so I don't think there is going to be a massive jump in performance for the next generation of consoles. New consoles are going to be defined by things like 3D and cloud type services.

If they make a SuperHD device its going to be worthless... how many TV's are going to be able to use it ?

I'm actually thankful for that. They are putting in decent hardware this time around.

I think they learned that core gamers buy a lot more games than casual gamers, hence the core push. We'll see a lot more "proper" games this time around.
 
I like the way they're spreading out to a home theatre concept with it. And I really do think the touchscreen is going to be the best remote you can get - miles better than XBOX's or /gag Kinect. It seems like they want it to be a centre of the living room type of device, which could be quite a compelling option if you look at the alternatives.

I was just thinking now about games like Frozen Synapse or xcom on wiiu. Civilization, Heroes of might and magic, sim city. This could be huge.

You know I thought the same thing when the Wii was first announced - real motion control. It turned out to be quite disappointing in reality, all waggling and no finesse. So I'm on a wait and see with the U. Real gameplay applicability is something devs need to plan for and create specifically.

Everything seems to indicate it's next gen (8th), the CPU is supposed to be based on the Power7 architecture which is pretty new.

As i said i'm frothing at the mouth with excitement to get the WiiU.
And if its next gen ie Quad core lots of RAM and fast GPU(ati based x8xx) I'll take a black one! Please take my money Nintendo :D

Except this time we have examples of the tech already in use. Heard of the Ipad or touch screen phones?
