OK, dont you guys think we can do something about telkom screwing us for every cent we have.

I mean look at overseas countries.. to them bandwidth is nothing! Now I'm thinking if enough people do something then things will change!

I'm thinkin in the line of V for Vendetta (if u watched the movie you'll know what I mean)

1 of my idea's are to just stop paying your Telkom bill... yes thats right... if 10 000 people stop paying telkom then they will have to do something about it!!

Hmmm, this again. Whilst i support your ideas and am with u in spirit, the last time we tried to get any kind of response from this forum it was me and prometheus that were keen for revolution and no1 else. So good luck with that man!

Yep, the problem is people don't like leaving their comfort zone.

So far I'm internetless (at home) for 7 months and going strong.

The sad thing is about 98% of people dont know that Telkom is screwing them..

cause only 2% have ADSL or use the internet

The problem is the most people do know they are being screwed, but don't do anything about it.

Majority of the people have this attitude of : "There is nothing I can do, so why bother".

You are asking people to commit connection suicide - I don't think so. Eeish. We rather starve.

Well lets start something!

On the 5th of November we all stop paying Telkom

please post here to to add your support!

and lets show Telkom this country wont take this any more.

Post your demands here
(does not matter if someone has mention the demand before)

what about a Sticky?

First off, with that option we're the ones that'll come last.
Second, it's the companies that bring in most of Telkom's funds - thats why they don't give a hoot what we say.

However.

Problem is not Telkom, it's actually the gavamint. Telkom are doing are doing what any privatised, unregulated company would do for it's investors (gavamint).

The only way we are going to see a change is by getting gavamint's finger out of every pie.

Dead by Xmas

I really appreciate the sentiment but I am not in on this.

25 Nov all services cut - no phone, alarm link, dial-up, ADSL

1 Dec still not reconnected
2 Dec spend day in Telkom callcentre phone queue from work phone. No luck.
3 Dec they can't find payment in suspense account - promise to call back
4 Dec admitted to psychiatric ward for 1 week of observation
14 Dec back home, still trying. Go pay another time.
15 Dec still not reconnected
16 Dec public holiday forkall happening
20 Dec still not reconnected
21 Dec told to bring ID book to retail branch
22 Dec listed as slow-payer on ITC
23 Dec still nothing, spend day wandering around callcentre
24 Dec go into coronary thrombosis
25 Dec die
28 Dec RECONNECTED!!! Just in time for my funeral.

Lets have a march down Eloff street. That seems to work for unions and the like. We gooi 'n toi toi. Yelling, screaming, throwing bottles, burning police cars, blocking roads... going MAD. We might even get a raise.

I'm serious. I'm all for a march (not a violent one). That is all our goverment understands, strikes. No civilised action is going to draw any attention.

Hahha yes, I'm just trying to imagine a myADSL march... I don't think uncivilized action by a bunch of computer nerds will draw much attention either. :)

Yeah, they'll cut 10 000 people's lines off. You still get screwed.

Telkom is majority and so is the Gov. There is nothing in our lifetime that will change it. We cannot have another communication company come here it would be a billion rand project to lay new lines, new poles, underground cabling the works. Telkom was here at the begining when it was privatised and they are here to stay.

Thats why if we have to put up with their horrific service and turn around times. They dont need us.

The only hope for SA is if a wireless company comes out that has the technology that is faster than ADSL and more stable...then Telkom would have to re-look at what the problem is. I would certainly move over within a blink.

Back to the drawing board Dare!
