Once again, the reason why we prefer employing foreigners!

I have 3 x people employed in my house - my baby's nanny (from the DRC), a lady that comes in on Wed mornings to do all the ironing (from Zim) and a domestic (from SA).

The iron lady (he he, no, not that one :D ) had to take her kid to hospital and because she did not have my tel no, she called the nanny to give me the message. She could have just stayed away but she made effort to explain her situation to me.

The nanny was thrown out of the room she lets, by some rough Nigerian landlords, but she still managed to make it to work the same day. What a winner.

The domestic .............................................. well, she just stays away from work. I called her and she did not answer the phone. When confronted, I get the explanation: "Eish, I had no airtime to call you". Pathetic!! I have explained to her time and again that she must give me advance notice when she is coming to collect her salary and not just pitch up at my house because I do not keep large amounts of cash in the house. Every single time she just pitches up at my front door.

I am just more and more convinced that, if given a choice, the foreigner gets my vote. Lazy, incompetent locals just do not cut it!

I think I suffer from the opposite of xenophobia :)

I have one guy that comes and works at us some weekends.

He is a South African.
I ask him to do something and he does it.
From washing the dishes to washing the car, no issues and always done on time.

That is a mighty big paintbrush you got there.

It is not a paintbrush; it is a personal observation.
 
I think we all what he is trying to say. Generalizing is ok when everyone knows it's generalizing :D

Obviously there are exceptions to every rule.

I have to tend to agree with the OP though.
 
Lol our gardener from zim and he will do anything :D Dad also got him a job at his work and gave him training :) The maid who is south african even called us when my mom was in hospital asking how she was. She must stay in some horrible place in roodeport,her phone was taken from her at a taxi rank and some guys demanding money from her broke her door down and beat her (should of seen her face) :(

Naturaly this is a generalisation.

But I have had better luck with foreigners.
 
This is why I have absolutely no problem whatsoever with foreigners from other African countries coming here to work.

That, sir, is a paintbrush. And you cannot justify it by prefacing your comments with "in my opinion", "in my personal experience" or "but some of my best friends are locals".
 
We have a domestic from Zim. She is 32, a qualified pharmacist and has a Science Degree from Blantyre University. Since she is an "illegal" she cannot work in SA. Have been trying for 18 months to get her a permit, but days standing in queues, demands for more and more documentation make it very frustrating. I have a job lined up for her in a pharmacy in Constantia, the owner is dead keen to have her on his staff, but Home Affairs puts up more and more barriers.

You seem unable to understand that I cannot comment from someone else's experience; only from my own. If you do not agree with my observations, that is fine.

This does of course not apply to all South Africans but I have heard the same story from so many other people (both black and white) that the devotion to duty of foreigners who come here is more apparent than our citizens. This from individual employers (domestics, etc) to people running small clothing factories, a construction company, a precision engineering machine shop, a place selling pump spares, a glass fitting shop and several motor workshops.
 
I agree. South African's are annoying. Fortunatly where I live, they are quite scarce.

I've said this repeatedly, to the dismay of a few on this forum - South Africans are lazy. I've only ever had problems employing South African's.

Theft, not pitching for work, breaking **** (after being told not to touch it), some my remember the shower and towel thread, etc.

I've now had a Malawian couple in my employ for about a year and a half - not a days problems. Before that I went through about six South African's who were a constant problem - and before then I had Zim employee for many years with no problems (I lost her to my ex when I went to Aus :( )
 
if a south african gets into trouble where is he going to go ?

but if a foreigner gets into trouble ...they life is over ...they here illegally most of the time so they will not lift a finger cause once authorities know those guys are getting the kick out of here

and thats why they work hard and majority are honest
 
Our maid's mother has died 3 times in a year, her brother died twice in 3 months and shes needing more money for these children who magically appear and need school fees. Its amazing.
