Why are bags of salad inflated?

Is it to prevent the salad from squashing or does it help to preserve the salad?

Hence what is the best way to store unused salad from a bag of salad? I re-seal the bag with a clip but I'm not sure if I should let out the air or keep in the air.
 
Not sure about the air in the bag. Often they use air with low levels of oxygen to stop it rusting/turning black.

To make it last longer, put in some (real) silver cutlery - will help keep it fresh. It's the same reason for Silver nano fridges etc.

It seems pretty obvious to me, that it's so the salad doesn't get crushed.

Sealing salad to store yourself, let out as much air as you can, but don't crush the salad in the process.

Humberto, after asking all these weird questions for a couple of years, you should compile them all into a book, called 'arbitrary questions and their various answers'.
 
You didn't think you pay so much just for a bag of leaves, did you?
 
After opening the bag of salad, put the salad in a Tupperware salad container and make sure to let the air out as you close the container. It will last for days!!

Suppose there is a sticker on the bag of salad which states: "Sell by 12 June".

Will the salad still be safe to eat on 13 June?

I have read that there is a risk of, for example, salmonella poisoning, if eating salad leaves beyond their use by date.

Doubt it. You can only get that from salmon that's been listening to Rihanna.
