Taking the position of
Devil's Advocate (for the sake of stirring the (revolting) peasants up) *heh*, let me add this:
- if the people can (get away with (though, apparently, this is getting to be problematic)) videotaping the proceedings (think Rodney King), then then turn about is fair play.
- then, and this one's a killer: the concept of 'freedom'. This one is always a favourite as most of the aformentioned (revolting)peasants don't seem to
get it (read the book: 1. it's a damn funny read and b.
Lord Vetinari is just priceless, but
does Get It(tm)) You see, while you have the 'freedom' to associate, say, to express displeasure at the goverment, you ALSO have the 'freedom' to reap the consequences of that choice.
So, for all that that clip shows a rather disturbing heavy-handed police response out of proportion to how the "protestors" (these people have NO idea, someone teach 'em to
toyi-toyi already! ..those .us cops have NO idea how easy they've got it!) are conducting themselves, they ARE equally as "free" to be there as they are to accept the consequences of their choice to be there. Sure, it's nice to have (the luxury of a social) concience, and bully for them for up and doing something about it, but
every choiceyou make comes with a price attached: it's your decision as to whether it's worth the cost; simple, really.
