Cheapest SAIX ADSL account for WoW

Need the cheapest ADSL account to play WoW, no p2p or downloading.

Had a MWEB business account and WoW worked perfectly. Freebies are over need to get my own account:(

Best one I can suggest is Web Africa's 1 gig prepaid unshaped account.

Its R125 for 1 gig unshaped, and allows you to play WoW pretty decently, over the weekend I was actually getting better latancy than some of my friends in the USA during lag spikes.

It works out MUCH cheaper than telkomsa's unshaped 4 gig account (R679.00 per month compared to R500.00 if you use 4 gigs which you should not do if all you do is play WoW), and you only buy bandwidth as you need it, plus if you run out on the 29th and buy an extra gig.. it carries over to the next month or until you use it.

1 GB will come close to lasting you 200hrs, but dont worry with WA you buy 1Gb and use it till its finished be that in 2 weeks or 3 months then you buy another. You will be reconnected within a few minutes.
 
Exactly. I go through about 3.5 gigs a month on WoW lately, WoW itself is not eating up any BW, but being on Ventrilo talking for 6 hours while doing MC/BWL/AQ uses up about 350 megs along with WoW for the night.

2 raids a week and well yeah, its gone pretty quick.

But at the end of the month, I've still usually got 500 megs or so left (if I buy 4 gigs), with any of the other options from other ISP's you would lose that 500 megs. So now basically every 2 months I get 1 Gig back free which I would lose from the other ISP, so you end up saving R125 every two months.

Plus say I buy a gig at the end of the month and I end up having to go away for work for 3 weeks.. so what, I get back and my BW is still there.

I now usually watch my BW and when I get to 200 megs, I log on to their site, buy an extra gig, and I'm set again without any downtime or interuptions

Well if your going to do any major downloading or that then it can be a problem. But thats not just with WA thats with anyone basically.

Last night I got a BETA account for a new game, I was kinda happy until I saw it was 5 gigs... I'm not going to pay R625.00 to play a BETA game.

But its like that with everything here in SA, Gamespot also has some really good prices nowdays and you can download some of the latest games for US$19.99. At first I was happy as can be, then I added in the BW cost and realised it would cost me R600 + to download.. Its cheaper to fly to the USA and buy it
 
If you on a tight budget and want the best of both worlds, another trick some guys do is buy both unshaped and shaped simultaneously.

Then connect using both accounts at the same time and use the "route" command (found in all major o/s's) to specify that WoW traffic must only use the unshaped.

You can even get fancier and use your router QoS settings to make sure P2P or other downloading does not affect your gaming.

If you have no idea what I'm on about, don't worry about it then. Otherwise if it helps then cool :)
 
Tight budget... I'm getting married in a few months.. Tight is an understatment :)

But thanks for the advice wamatt, I'll look into that after I've sold my kidneys to pay for my honeymoon, I'll push all my stuff through the unshaped (since I have to use vent on there because my american friends dont understand what its like to pay for bandwidth / gig and have the most BW hungry Codecs installed) and then all my "wife's" varsity work through the shaped
 
IT really depends if WoW is your main concern, The shaped accounts used to give me an average of about 800-1500 ms ping, its playable, but when lag hits the servers, or Everyone and their aunts are downloading for the night, expect that to be about 5k-15k ms.

Unshaped, I sit with about 350-500ms pings while getting 200 to 350 on vent at the same time, Lag spikes on the server usually see me sitting lower than my american friends
 
KK next question, me and my "buurman" want to share the internet, i'm providing the line and the router. Plans was to use a network cable and have internet sharing enable. I was planning to get 2 accounts, one shape and unshape.
Unshape is for my WoW and shape account for normal browsing. I would like "buurman" only to use the shape account. How can I setup this ? Can it bedone ?
 
Yes. As wamatt said above, I myself have not done it yet since right now I cant afford two seperate accounts, but it is quiet possible.

You might want to look into getting yourself a really good Wireless Router though (one that supports QoS).

This means you can run cables in your house to your PC's (since most have at least 1 or 2 Cable connections) and your "buurman" only needs to get himself a Wireless network card too slap into his PC.

This will stop the need to run cables across your yards. It will also stop the chance of lightning hitting a cable and blowing up both of your PC's and lastly, if for some reason he has a power surge, or you do, it will only effect things on your side/ his side and not right across.
 
I'll agree.....go with WebAfrica.....Although SAOL is cheaper, believe me, they have cheaper "service" 2...lol..Ill NEVER go back to SAOL....never..
 
Well I must admit I did have good service with SAOL while testing them out.

But with WA there is no Contract on the Pre-paid, and due to the fact that the BW rolls over, it ends up being considerably cheaper than SAOL, never mind the fact that WA's prepaid (on the 1 gig side) is R4.00 Cheaper than SAOL's 1 gig unshaped option
