Linux tried Suse 10 , Redhat 9 , Mandrake . Susne 10 the best for me. Suse 10 outruns all the rest for me. Mabe made dektop to my needs and stuff so we will see !
 
why u try redhat 9 ? thats so old ... the latest version of that is fedora core 5
 
Having been an admin/user of Suse, Redhat / Fedora, Mandrake / Ubuntu (most recent) i've been most impressed with Ubuntu.

Give Ubuntu a try, it's free and local :D

And local is lekker! ;)
I must say, I am also most impressed with Ubuntu (specifically as it is the only one that runs properly on my notebook)
 
Eermm... surely if Kubuntu is Ubuntu with KDE, then Ubuntu with Gnome should be Gnubuntu?
 
Strange why Slackware never gets a mention.Its been proven that Slackware is the most stable Distro and one of the 1st Distro's made

The only thing i did not like about the installation of SuSE10.1 was that i could not do a hard disk install. All was well after the normal dvd install as i was able to add the iso as an installation source.
 
Ubuntu is very nice for a desktop linux, but the distribution lacks a lot of software other distributions bring with. Nevertheless, for the desktop it's the best Linux I have seen so far.

For server stuff I prefer Debian over all of them.

??? Ubuntu has tons of software, MORE than others. Plus they have an updated packages unlike Debian which can lag behind at times e.g. Thunderbirds still not at 1.5 in Testing

Have you tried adding Universe as a repository?
 
I mean software bundled with the installation media, not what's available on the net.

hell yeah! I love slackware - first used it at version 3. Guess the problem is it's not as user friendly as some of the more polished distro's out there...but that's what I love about it! :D
 
Its just as "user friendly" as the other DIstro if you fire up GNOME or KDE with the 2.6 kernel for extra hardware support
 
Ubuntu local respositories?

Anyone know if there are any local repositories of Ubuntu for:
  • main
  • restricted
  • universe
  • multiverse

I'm wondering if I would be able to get all my updates and other repository downloads using OpenWeb's 10GB local account.
