I have just bought a new 47" LG 3D (47LM5800) TV.

The picture from my SD-PVR looks bad compared to my old 74cm TV. (Noise and ghosting)
Is it just because this now a bigger picture?

I planning to buy an HD-PVR latter, but is there anything I can do to get a better picture now?
I have fiddled with the TV settings a bit, but no improvement. The only thing I have changed on the PVR is to the 16:9 ratio.

HDTVs are generally not kind on SD pictures. Try connect with component cables if possible, and also remember that a lot of SD channels are not broadcast in 16:9, so you are likely stretching them across your screen which obviously does not help

Yip, common problem. People think that buying a fancy LCD / LED will give an awesome picture but sadly the opposite with SD.

This is where plasma wins in books, SD is much better on plasma. Can't remember why.

LED upscales at 100mhz and the worst plasma does it at 350 mhz

SD on HDTV is horible!, Some chanels you wont notice so much, some you will check out trace you will want to puke!

if you are getting an HDPVR dont get rid of your SD you can keep both conected, if not give it to me ill make sure it has a loving home :)

No it is mainly because on an LCD you are generally upscaling a 576i image to 1080p whereas on most plasmas you are going to 720p so there isn't that much upscaling.
Also not sure what you are referring to?

Well I always recommend to people, if you are buying a TV for SD only, buy a plasma. You will be a lot happier with the picture quality. Whatever it does in terms of up scaling not sure, but it just looks better. I far more enjoy watching my 50" plasma over my 40" LCD when it comes to SD TV. An HD Pvr is all great, but there are only a handful of HD channels. Will be so awesome when every channel is HD :) /dreams

If you decrease the sharpness level, does that help ?
