Rewriting Maths and Physical Science for entrance to UNISA...Advice

I passed my matric on standard grade with everything except geography on higher grade. I looked at UNISA entrance requirements from Mechanical engineering and it said that you can apply with X in standard grade so I applied. I went to UNISA and got told I need to do my maths and physical science on higher grade to get entry to the Mech Eng diploma.

I have 2 problems
1. They say you can enter on standard grade when actually you can't(Engineering)
2. Im scared I do as im told by UNISA(Maths and Physical Science) and then I get there next year and they tell me e.g no but u need to redo English as well or something like this.

Can anyone relate to this or give any advice
I Know im capable of doing higher grade I was just lazy in High school and currently im 22 turning 23(does not get me in for Btech degrees)
 
apparently they don't provide bridging courses for students who finished matric on the old curriculum.
 
Hey Electrical Power Engineering here through Unisa , i know they offer the MAT0511 bridging course for mathematics im not sure what the Science one is. The bridging course is one year and you can accompany it with your other non math or science modules, im pretty sure the bridging courses are for old curriculum also. Alternatively you go and do N3/N4 at a technikon and i cant see the english mark being a problem, i think in first year MechE you have to do a basic english module.

Edit : If you got a D on standard grade for Eng, Math and Sci you meet the requirements.

Do they have any emails on the website for the HoD? Try email or call them if they have a number or email.

Its English for academic purposes. Pretty straight forward.

Yes thats it ,very easy. I remember taking the exam with domestic workers in the room :D

:erm:

If they allow you to do Mech Eng on standard grade then the education dept seems hell bent on maintaining their the 30% pass rate.

Ok just so i can clarify the exam with the domestic workers is for everyone as far as i know regardless of higher grade or standard grade marks. That being said i personally couldn't care about pass rates as long as the low admission requirements don't equate to a low standard for the degree which i dont see it doing.
 
I'm currently busy with both the Math and Science, also for mech eng, I took some other subjects as well to get a head start on next year. If you'v applied, just go when registration opens, wait in the queue for engineering, when you get to the front, they will tell you which subjects you may apply for, then choose the math0511 and science for eng. English (like they said, we must all do it anyway) and the computer subjects EUC and EUP. Sorted.

Not being sarcastic but UNISA are allowing you to do the degree with your standard grade, just they don't tell you that you have to do more than your standard 30 modules. Its not uncommon for UNISA to require students to do bridging courses or other basic mindless modules.

End of day, just do them and don't stress. Your first year might be made up of brain dead modules but thats the price you have to pay for being lazy at school, after that you can then get to the better modules.

One thing with UNISA is 1st level/year modules are very basic as they want everyone on the same level, 2nd level/year modules require a bit of thinking and studying ans 3rd level/year is where you really start learning as now you need to think for youself.

But all the best and please don't let anything stand in your way of your studies.
