Do you hit your child in public?

Was having a discussion with family and according to my sister-in-law a bill was passed and it is no longer legal to spank your child in public!

I did some searching around but I'm not sure, is this true? :confused:

Been this way for years? I spank em anyway, dont see why a small child should dictate the dining experience of all the mature people around me.
 
I spank regardless of the audience. My child only every threw one floer-moer with me and that was at my local PnP - I slapped one shot on his butt checks and resolved the problem.

I overheard one of the customers say to her child "See, thats what happens when your naughty" and three of the staff (they know us well) told my son: "You must listen to your daddie"
 
Yes it's legal, your sister in law should not believe everything she gets via email.
 
Regardless of the law, if I had kids they would get spanked when they deserved it if it was in public.
 
There's a difference of course whether you give your child a hiding or you beat him/her with the fist through the face. Last named isn't legal anywhere.

Hasn't been legal for something like 10 years now.... public or not.

What do you mean its not legal? They can't seriously think its fine and okay for your kids to do whatever they want without physical reprimanding them. Well, unless its one of those laws that says, it's illegal to spank your child, but don't worry, if you do we don't care.
 
Never hit my child and never will.

Not hitting a child does not ever mean letting them do whatever they want.
 
depends why you hit your child. i've been able to communicate with my child properly and explain things to him despite him being only 2. they just get frustrated that they can understand what you're saying but can't find an effective way to communicate what they want.

my son refusing a bottle 100 times and then wanting it again was frustrating, but i eventualyl realised he wanted it under different conditions, he wanted me to hold him while he drank it and he couldn't tell me. as soon as i picked him up he took it and hugged me to show me that is what he wanted all along.

there are situations that it may be necessary, but i guess it's all how you raise your child
 
Yes. I would never allow the public to dictate how I raise my kids. And I don't do the "wait until we are home" ...they got it right away. Thankfully they were fast learners so it was a rare occurrence.

That being said, when is a child too old for a hiding??

When they can hit back ;) ... but seriously I think you will know when they are old enough. My eldest (12) only ever got one spanking from me, the middle one (5) has had only 3 this year and the youngest (2) is too young to get one. I believe each child is an individual and there is no generic answer.

If you can control them without physical discipline then I suppose you can get away with it. But in our family myself and my brother are the only ones of 7 cousins that got hidings and we are also the least problematic of the 7 and the most respectful. Not saying you have to put your fist through a kids face and throw hot water on them, but a good spanking if I didn't listen has done me no harm. Eventually you know where the limit is with your folks.

I got my last hiding at 12 for smashing a chandelier out of the ceiling.

I did get a good slap from my mom when I was 16 for slagging a woman off though.

I was still at school when this came out. I just remember the big bo-hai about it. I don't have a source thereof, no.

I think if you're going to hit them for a misdemeanor it must at the scene of the crime so they know and understand.
