I-BURST better than all new telkom

I'm not very informed on the whole iburst service and was wondering, now that telkom has released a new pricelist if iburst is still better if yoy look @ a 3GB cap?? Wich is the best value for money
 
Remember, the 3Gb is not hard capped!!!!! once you hit your 3Gb you still have international bandwidth, although only 64k. If you have an ADSL line, then its pointless waisting it, but personally there is now way i am getting anything from hellkom.

Look at other thread and how much you really save with the new ADSL price cuts.

Yes as was said depends what you want the service for. and what area you in.
 
I would still stick with iBurst, just for the simple reason that you're not 'hard capped'. I reached my cap last month (reinstalled XP with all updates for hardware & software) and was still able to surf the net.

With Telkom ADSL, when you reach your cap, you just get cut off and must whip out the old trusty 56k dial-up modem - how pathetic is that?

Like swoosh said - NO Telkom in my house is how I like it.

*Oh and the new IE7 beta 2 is FLYING with iBurst. I can't stop surfing & downloading - there goes my cap again! *SIGH*
 
Mmm, I think something needs to be noted about mobility with iBurst. It is not as mobile as the cellular products that are currentl available. That being said, it is very stable and nice and quick in areas where good coverage is available.
 
Also note, with iBurst, you pay almost twice as much extra for 1 gb bandwidth as what you do with ADSL.

Another thing to consider is that iBurst is it's own ISP. So if another ISP (lets assume wireless) rocks up with better prices. Not only do you have to buy their modem outright (or sign a 24 month contract) you have a nice little iBurst paperweight sitting there (and a lot of hassle in giving it back if you have a 24 month contract, not even mentioning getting OUT of that contract)

With ADSL, if I decide I'd like to go with another ISP now. 5 minutes later I have a different account with a different ISP who would probably treat me better. And if I find something cheaper. Guess what? I go with that option without having to :

a) Buy a new modem
b) Sell my left nut to get out of a contract
c) Suck someone's **** to stop the debit orders going off because I'm not a client of them anymore.

The real trouble with ADSL is the waiting period of getting the actual line installed. When you're up and running, you're up and running and you can do what you please.

10gb including rental of a 1024 line would set me back around R1250 a month. iBurst, with a contract, 9gb option would set me back R1339. For that price you can buy extra 2gb on the ADSL line. Or even fork out another R500-R1000 and get a totally uncapped option. <--- SEE, you have a choice if you want to go uncapped.

Hell, I think a 30gb account including line rental etc wouldn't even cost you more than R2000 (can be wrong)

So really. is iBurst *that* much better?

I don't really think so, and seeing as I've had 2 years of Sentech/iBurst woes before getting my ADSL line, I'd be hard pressed to be convinced otherwise.
 
acid razor please justify your comment about the R1250/month for a 1024 line...

does that include your ISP charges? what about the damn DSL line charges? and lastly not to forget your telephone line charges...

I have not seen a ISP with 1024 that sells 3gig packs for that price range and that's EXCLUDING the DSL rental.
 
Thanks Guys, this helps a lot, the only problem is I'm not looking to go over say +/- R800,00 pmfor the whole pacakge. And yes ive seen iburst with IE7 Beta 2, it rocks. The last thing is the cap being reached, are you saying that with iburst I will ALWAYS be online, just @ 64k after my cap has been reached? and by the way I won't be useing the mobility at all, it will be in my study all the time.

I also agree that I would certainly hate to get anything from telkom, its onld technology and has been around forever, and telkom hasn't upgraded any service. The "True Broadband is 1024" now would the western world think we are still in the stone age.

Anyway thanks your advice has been great & at the moment iburst is winning the trophy...:)

It depends what you want to use the net for. I-Burst's latency is not good so if you game not a good idea.
If you want to download large amounts locally then get ADSL with an IS account.
If you happy to wait bit for a download then ADL 384k with a SAIX 3 gig account (all your money goes to telkom :( )
I'm guesing you have a landline already so maybe you already paying R100 for line rental.

other option
Buy a Iburst modem and get a 3gig account you do get 64k, i quote from my bandwidth email report "Should you reach the 6GB cap on the combined total, you will be redirected to a throttled service."
if you choose to change ISPs you can possibly sell your modem and get something back.

interestingly outgoing mails go at full speed. not sure about incoming.

I-Burst are yet to say whether they will have a price change. I wouldn't hold my breath

I have given Telkom the Boot after giving them 3 chances. Each time they f*cked up so badly, it's surreal. sure... 2 chances too many. Don't try to tell me you haven't had a serious problem with them... it's just a matter of time

Without Telkom, I play online games, I surf, I chat, I make phone calls, I work from home sometimes but support The big T ? NO WAY

Don't support the overpriced Monopoly with no service. Save yourself the anguish and stress.

This not a Troll posting, sure it's provocative, but I've got to provoke some serious thought here...

Telkom should NOT be on your list of considerations.


P.S. yeah....I'd go with IBurst ;)

Yes Iburst will ALWAYS be online, even the "death by cap" thing is pretty much sorted now, dont worry about that.

For just 3gigs and being able to get 64kb after cap I think Iburst is probably the best option and they might very likley have some sort of price cut or at least something to make their service better, higher cap, faster speed etc.
Where you could use the mobility is just going over to someones house or going on holiday, im shure you'd end up using it one day??

But, yes there are circumstances where ADSL is better, but you can play local quite easily (maby not neccesarily FPS) with a good Iburst connnection and everything else is fine, so it should do well for you.
 
Again thanks for the advice, I would rather give money to charity before paying telkom but the only reason I'm considering thm is because one of their "Big Bosses" or something lives near to me and we get along quite well. He has a static I.P. & 1024 line & UNCAPPED for the member exclusive R 800,00 pm. NICE Isn't it... But anyway Iburst seems great & I have a friend that will just plug in his mode on my pc to test the signal. So no worries there, I was just wondering what options I have if I haven't got any signal:confused: Again just for intrest, I haven't got a ADSL line istalled only a primitive 56k dail-up.

I think you must be in some sort of management position to get the 'perks' (also know a Geldbom guy with uncapped 512kbps line @ home), but mind you, nowadays everyone is a manager! Eish!

I agree. Telscum was overpriced. They lowered their prices. They are STILL overpriced...with a topping of bad service.
