Couple survives freezing night on mountain

Funnily enough, I almost had the same experience. I got down just before it was dark

My guess is that they were trying to go down Llududno ravine and missed the turnoff. The path goes on quite a way and then suddenly ends. Fatalities have been reported there as well. Lol, they were probably using the same outdated version of Lundy that I was.

Warning to anyone planning to take the Llududno ravine down toward Suikerbossie. Read the route very very carefully, and use an up to date guide book.

and if you think dialling the police will help dont because despite what they tell you, that chopper aint coming.

damn, I never realised that there is so much trails to walk behind table mountain ...

their cell time had run out
I though emergency calls went through regardless of airtime or even the presence of a sim card?

It looks pretty - but it's a real mountain - and it kills - regularly - don't ever forget; bit like the sea really - respect and be careful at all times.

I think that's for 112, seems like they called the flying squad 10111 :D

Tourists. Should be better informed. (Most Cape Townians know the dangers.)

Yes - but the direct number to mountain rescue is a pay number and 112 are often too dim to actually be able to call-out mountain rescue when its needed...

Here's the thing.

When I got lost, I had the following:

1) Approved paths on Table Mountain (MCSA)
2) Peter Slingsby - Table Mountain
3) Mike Lundy - Best walks in Cape Peninsula (1989 - very old)
4) Adventure trails in Western Cape (?) - Karen Watkins

In addition, I was an experienced hiker, as was my hiking partner. Both of had, at that stage walked table mountain extensively.

My point, no matter how well prepared you are, it is still easy to make a slip up. Be careful, it doesn't just happen to tourists.

Oh, and make sure that you have the gear to be able to last you a night on Table Mountain.

Regarding mountain rescue, by calling them up, you are endangering their lives, and it is probable that if you are able to survive for the night, they would rather fetch you in the morning than risk going up themselves. If it is getting dark, you should not try to keep walking, but rather find a sheltered place to settle for the night. On this part of the mountain, I would recommend the shelter below Judas Peak.
