www.ods.co.za

512k uncapped, unshaped
Cisco router included
5 Static IP Addresses
10 Email Addresses / 10 Aliases
24 Hour Support / IM / Email / Tel

I would like to know if anyone can share their experiances with this service and if this is really uncapped and unshaped and what speed to expects. e.g. HTTP, FTP, P2P

Thanks

BTech:confused:

Yeah, im also looking into this too, could anyone tell us what they experince with it

Thanks

They are just reselling IS uncapped accounts.

Speeds are great when there is no clouds up north.

Edit - Seems like false advertising. On the home page it says uncapped adsl from R999 per month. When you click on the adsl specs box it brings you to a new page with cheapest option R1350 (excl. VAT).

Sat or Fibre refers to where IS sources their Int bandwith from. So you don't need a dish.

Thanks for clearing that up :)

What speeds in terms of a 512k account uncapped and unshaped will one recieve for p2p with IS on:

a) Satellite
b) Fibre

Yeah - saw that too.

Ok then, back to my original question...

What speeds in terms of a 512k account uncapped and unshaped will one recieve for p2p with IS on (has anyone got a story to tell??):

a) Satellite
b) Fibre

 So it seems fair to assume that no-one on this forum has any experiance with this ODS service. If you know of another forum where they may be discussed please pm me.:(

Some info...i hope

Hi,

I've been using the IS uncapped 512k service for about 6 months now, which is what the account you mention is based on. The international traffic is via satellite. Generally, browsing is OK, but not near as responsive as a SAIX account, mainly due to latency. Latency to overseas sites is in the region of 600ms to 900ms. Latency to local sites is between 150ms and 300ms. Reliability has not always been great although as of late it has improved. If it rains or is overcast in PTA or JHB, chances are international is going to blow. As for speeds, normal HTTP downloads range between 20KB to 45KB and sometimes, on very special days, i get 50KB. Torrents are good, maxing the line out at +- 45-48KB/s. During the day, speeds are generally slower, probably due to the business users, but at night it improves.

hope this helps

Thx tardomatic. I'm gonna contact the for a quote. I basically fed up with the ISDN, Edge and saix capped shaped account's I have. It costs me anyway in excess of R1600-00 pm to get 25gigs intl with what I currently use so I might as well give it a go. Fortunately I have two lines so for now I'll keep my isdn but what a waste of time and money edge is!!

Hi,

Some more info... Apparently this uncapped account isnt really uncapped... What they do is they monitor your usage for 10 days. if you exceed 30GB in 10 days, your speed gets cut to 256KB/s. Then they monitor for another 10 days and if you use less than 30GB you get 512 again, but if u use more, its 128 and so forth.
