Mbeki as popular as Mandela

Rubbish, Mandela have all the overseas admirers, Maybe only under the ANC support group but then I do not think Zuma is far behind! as he solved the aids crisis!

Mandela is a Biblical Salomo, a wise man! You will have to go far to get his equal in any African leader now and in the future! they are not good enough to even wash his feet, He should be cloned for a memorial, a statue is no good, cold and dead! I will be on his funeral when it happens if I can get there, for sure!

I'm not denying or agreeing with anything, but this article is so scant on factual details, it's completely irrelevant.
 
Well, it seems suddenly Mbeki is starting to talk tough, well its to late buddy. I love Mandela, he doesn't bear grudge, a lesson a few of us on here can learn...

I respect and admire Mbeki far more than Mandela. Mandela was just a preople's person. He was a rubish president, who happened to have good advisors (One of which was Mbeki). His understanding of economics was appaling, no better than University first year. This I find unnaceptable in a President.

Mbeki is one of the best Presidents the world has ever seen (IMHO) behind Churchill and arguably Smuts (And I would throw in Nixon as well, but I can just imagine the response)
 
Mandela was a great man. Mbeki has been a good man, but his greed for money, and lack of actually addressing real options.. bleh, not even in the same league as Mandela

I'm very interested to hear more, Jstrike! I'm ashamed to say it, but I must admit I'm not particularly clued up on politics and would like to hear your reasons for believing that he's one of the best presidents ever.

Everyone to his own. I repect your view, just I have seen so little of Mbeki, what have he done for me? He travels a lot and allow Ivy to ruin the system, Zuma to damage aids campaigns, Others like recent ministers to flame the country with remarks that created the flame wars on this exact web site. Maybe he is so much a Technocrat he does not know how to control his subordinates?

@JStrike - Nixon? Interesting choice - wouldnt have gone in that direction myself.

Glad to see he's got a positive approval rating - he could give some lessons to Bush.
 
The popularity is only in respect to approval ratings regarding their roles as president. Both men have done things outside the president's office, so the approval ratings aren't a good measure of either men. On face value, I'd say Mandela has done far more outside the office for the betterment of all people, compared to Mbeki. But I could be wrong in that Mandela's exploits are better known.

Regarding Jan Smuts - he gave us the words "holistic" and "holism", and championed the philosophical view that the whole must be examined whenever you are looking at something. I think that is an incredibly valuable contribution to the language and in general to our civilisation.

i agree. Mandela although a great man was a crap president... i think Mbeki has been amazing barring a couple of stupid things said. I wouldn't call the president of a country with one of the highest crime rates the best president in the world though... cuz um... well lets face it suth africa has a lot of issues that havent been addressed yet...

Mandela vs Mbeki... as people... Mandela wins hands down which makes me think this article is pseudo gov propoganda. but da new generation aint falling for orwell tricks... or are they?

Well the truth is spoken! and yes the generation of today does fall for the GVT propaganda and brainwashing. Look at Zim, they still believe it's going well there. Will vote for Mugabe again tomorrow if they can, its called the "New world" African version of democracy!

Look at the guys here pro Mbeki over Mandela and go read the average chant and traits of their posts and all will speak for itself, it will be revealed!

Jstrike confuses and cloud the issue a bit, but that's him!:D
 
I find the comparison of Mandela vs Mbeki as president interesting. It has been widely acknowledged that Mandela did little running of the country while he was president, but left this up to Mbeki. (My source as far as I can remember is "Beyond the Miracle" by Alister Sparks).

As a leader of humanity, however, there is no comparison.

But remember the survey was on the approval rating of the office of president.
 
I don't care who is more popular, the ANC is bigger than both of them.
