Match 1 - Germany vs Costa Rica

Well it was an OK match...not a stunner or anything but Germany's 4th goal was a beaut...it's definitely gonna be a contender for goal of the Tournament. What did you guys think of the match?
 
I thought it was a good game. Though the germans will have to be concerned about their defence if they have hopes of progressing far.
 
Now that there are four match officials it appears that the players are going to get away with very little in this tournament.

I've always thought that the refereeing can make or break any competition and the refs seemed to be spot on in this game(was the goal off-side?).

Let's hope it stays that way.
 
I was very impressed with Wanchope. I think the costa ricans were a little out played - they seemed to get a little tired towards the end of each half.

Well done to the Germans
 
what i saw of it looked like Germany were very much on top with CR looking to score on the break - two very well taken goals from Wanchope; re defence as they say in brazil it doesn't matter if you leak a few so long as you're scoring more

Goal was not offside. Been arguing this with my german mates. Clear daylight has to be between last defender and attacking player as far as i am concerned. Benefit always goes to the attacking side.

Fair enough . Some good goals and lots of action at least for an opening game, but if germany play like that against any decent team they will be on the end of a serious hammering!

Fortunately for them Poland and Ecuador looked about as bad as Costa Rica on last night's performance!
 
I didn't enjoy it at much because I didn't know about any of the players as they were all no-name players.

I am more looking forward to England, France and Brazil games.
 
I am sorry, you can debate the first one (I believe it was a valid goal) but the second was clear as daylight with wanshoke walking into a classical off-side trap to force players to have to walk into the defence with a ball orpass the ball to the side or rear. It is a very dynamic defence and I hope Klinsman's team can make it work.

However I liked the play by the Germans, much more engaging than the usual stalling in the midfield and just trying to lob them in from the sides every once in a while. Much more constructive and also much nicer to watch. We need to improve in the midfield and could take an example by the exceptionally compact play by Equador yesterday.
