Gauteng hijackings down to 16 a day

Johannesburg - Vehicle hijackings in Gauteng have decreased from 25 to 16 a day this year, provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Mzwandile Petros said in Johannesburg on Monday.

“That is a significant reduction and we do not plan to change our crime-fighting strategy in that regard, but improve on it.”

He was speaking after meeting national police commissioner Riah Phiyega, who was visiting provinces to learn about the police's strategies to fight crime.

At least 50 percent of the country's crime happened in Gauteng, Petros said. He said the number could come down further if police introduced “certain things”.

“We will be producing our research project next month that will detail how we plan to reduce that,” he said. - Sapa

I work with SAPS on a weekly basis and if you believe their stats you'll also believe the cANCer is honest.
 
Hijacking Tactics 101: Be careful along Heidelberg Road, especially between Alberton and Roodekop on the R554. A car will drive past you and the guys will point at something on your vehicle as if there is something wrong. Later another different car will do the same thing only much more urgently and will try to get you to pull over and then hijack you. People fall for this because you might be willing to ignore one car, but when a second different car warns you, then you think something must be wrong with your car. Do not stop at all, but proceed to a garage or police station where there are lots of people. You can check your car at that point! The Hijackers are coming up with more and more devious plans to get you to pull over.

Those roadside hawkers try this trick in the Fourways/Bryanston areas too, especially on woman. Be vigilant, folk!
 
Sister in law had an attempt yesterday on William Nichol Drive. As she was at the front and there were no cars coming, she put foot in her Subaru with the guy hanging on the door handle. At about 90km/hr he fell off and rolled over and over until she could not see him any more. Bit of a ding in the door, but no scratches

Its a stats juggle.... Car hijacking is when no-one gets hurt... when a person is hurt, its Attemped murder and theft. same thing, different name. Also there is no catagory for 'Attempted hijacking'

Yep. Sadly these savages get your heart racing a wee bit. Ignore them and proceed to a safe place to check if you are unsure ;)
