DD-proxy: Full speed international after dl 10 gig local??

With regards to ant1body's ddproxy

Is it possible to use 1 account, openweb's : 2 gig int + 28 gig local + openbrowse 192, with ddproxy ?

what i mean is, I dnt want to use my initial 2 gig international/local cap on local content.. Is is possible for ddproxy to split the traffic so that i can download 10 gig local but still have access to the initial 2 gigs of full speed international bandwidth...

Not possible, whatever you transfer counts to the international portion of your cap first.
 
dabean, are you 100% sure?

Have you used ddproxy?
Has MrBeep clarified this?
 
If you're in your initial 2gb cap... both int and local count towards it. If you think about wat u wanna do: u want to route local thru one connection and int thru another. Seeing as how u only working with one account, u really not changing anything.

If you're into your "local only" bandwidth, using openbrowse and want to let int go thru the openbrowse proxy while local goes straight.. this is wat openrouter does.

In theory, that would work well. I also think
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=39234 is more wat u looking for. But local has counted towards your initial cap since back in the day, and our adsl market seems to be happy with it staying this way
 
Indeed.

It is odd, cos if they are giving you the international anyway, then they could just as well give it to us in a way that we can actually make good use of it, if we are going to use it anyway. But i dont think that telkom cares that much about what we want, now do they? :(
 
This issue has to be highlighted more, I'm sure a lot of ppl are not aware that local bandwidth counts towards your int. cap initially, or at least are in some doubt about it.
 
Unfortunately there's no way at present to 'save' your international bandwidth. Once your first 2gb (or whatever's) used up you're limited to local only access, even if your first 2gb was all local as well. I'm sure it's technically possible for IS to allow for local/international traffic to be split on one account but then they'd make less money... ;)

All you can really do is to have 2 separate accounts and use something like my routesentry app to route local/international traffic between them. I myself use an OpenWeb account for local access (due to the 30gb local access on IS accounts) and a webafrica prepaid for international.

It's a pity OpenWeb stopped their local only accounts as they were ideal for this type of situation.

My ddproxy app was designed to speed up local access when making use of a proxy service like openbrowse. Openweb's Openrouter app does just what ddproxy does plus a little more... :)
