Anyone remember that incident where they shot that mentally ill guy in his underwear on the road, he had a knife though. Instead of just shooting him in the leg or tazering him they decided to pump him full of lead, fsck yeah!
 
Ja, on the surface of it, that definitely seems like an over-reaction.
Could they not just shoot him in the leg? Or the hand?
 
Yeah they really should have just shot these mentally ill madmen in the legs and then spent months if not years in court, wasting millions of dollars, creating a media circus that probably in the end would have resulted in the accused getting off or going to a mental asylum, again at great cost to the taxpayer.

Definitely would have been better to just wound him

Compared to the millions they're going to have to pay for a wrongful death/excessive force settlement?

Anyway, they were police officers on the other side of those guns, not accountants.

Definitely overkill there, but i don't see how "mentally ill" is relevant here (in all caps and all that) The guy that went into a cinema the other day and shot the people in the batman movie is most definitely "mentally ill" . So mentally ill people is not necessarily less harmful than normal people in a situation like that, they are more likely MORE dangerous. In this case, obviously the police should have done something else here, whether he was mentally ill or not.
 
Mentally disturbed people are much more dangerous then usual! I don't condone police killings but this is one instance when reasoning is doomed from the word go.

So what do we do in situations where drunk people have a knife? Shoot them 30 frikken times???
