There are three kinds of figures:

[1] Those which can be fairly accurately quantified and which are publically available (his salary, for example);
[2] Those partly known and which can be broadly quantified or projected (allowances, for example); and
[3] Those which are unknown and which, in some cases, can be credibly estimated.

At the very least, President Zuma will cost the South African taxpayer R517.7m over five years – an average of R103.5m per year; in other words, half a billion Rand. Were he to secure another term, his Presidency would cost the South African public, at least, R1 billion.

Breakdown of Costs

1. Annual Salary [Known]: Zuma recently agreed to an inflation-related 5.5% salary increase, as recommended by the Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers, bringing his annual salary to R2 662 561.00, up from R2 485 839.00 and backdated to 1 April 2012. Zuma was inaugurated on 9 May 2009. His annual salary breakdown over that period is as follows:

• 1 April 2009 – 1 April 2010: R2 275 802.00 (11 months, R2 086 151.00)
• 1 April 2010 – 1 April 2011: R2 367 466.00 (1 year, 5% increase)
• 1 April 2011 – 1 April 2012: R2 485 839.00 (1 year, 5%)
• 1 April 2012 – 1 April 2013: R2 622 561.00 (1 year, 5.5%)
• 1 April 2013 – 1 April 2014: R2 753 689.00 (1 year, projected 5% increase)
• Five Year Total: R12 315 706.00

For someone who can only write Grade 5 behind his name, this politician really hit the good times.
 
IMO, the only reprehensible figure in the rather long thumb suck is the spousal support

No more polygamists please!! As for the rest of the major spend figures, they are are indirect and do not fall part of the Presidency budget. And the author assumes that the incumbant President is the only person to make use of the VIP transport squadron, whereas at the top of my head, at least three people do. There was an article and thread on it not so long ago on this forum.

Other than the spousal support, the numbers would have been the same if it was anyone else...
 
He shouldn't need the money.

He is given a house
He should use a state hospital/doctors/dentist ect
His kids can go to government school
The govenrment can drive him around
He gets to travel on the house

WTF does ne need that amount of money for? :mad:
 
So these numbers are at best thumb sucked? Why is this even being passed off as current affairs, the source is dodgy and someone's personal opinion.
As I understand the audited real figures say Zuma's entire cabinet costs R1bn a year.
 
Madness. R1.3mil on medical aid? wtf? The top plan on discovery is something like R5000/month so R60k a year. What more would he possibly need than that? Why can't he pay his own "spousal support" out of his massive salary? Last time I checked my company doesn't provide "spousal support". The travel related things I can kind of understand why they would be in the budget but most of the time it's rather "extravagant".
 
That's just the formal cost .. anyone care to put a monetary value on the fact that Zuma basically legitimized corruption?

As long as he remains a member of the ANC the taxpapyer will continue to support Zuma and his clan until they're all deceased.
 
Reading the previous articles by the guy he seems to have a huge chip on his shoulder torwards the ANC. Have the DA ever challenged the ministerial handbook or are they enjoying the lavish allowances too?
 
Nice try but this was about the prez which does not come from the DA ranks.

Better you read the rest of the articles on inside-politics.org with an open mind, then ask yourself how any reasonably intelligent person could ever support a dishonest party like the ANC.

He is researcher in chief for the DA Fudzy, and his research is impeccable. Have not seen any of his articles ever effectively rubbished by the ANC.

As for the handbook and the DA challenging it, well they have, and only after the thing was leaked (think by the M&G) after numerous requests to the ANC to release it for scrutiny were fobbed off.

Its like asking them where they spend the money for other things and they claim rubbish like state security, etc as reasons for non disclosure.
Thieves, the lot.

You can download the handbook from the website. Googlign "DA challenges miniters handbook" only points to stories where they are pointing fingers... as usual. Sick and tired of the effort wasted in pointing out these obvious flaws rather than fixing them.

Develop a strategy that brings the handbook into review, introduce KPIs for ministers to be afforded such privelages. Then go on an awareness campaign about waste that goes further than a couple of blogs & Facebook posts. I mean if you're going to bad mouth the opposition you might as well have the balls to do it in real life.

These are all things I really want to see the DA do, I know they can make the change this country needs.
