There is a similar sounding (not the same but close) shop in Jhb to ours in Cape Town. These other people feature on Hello Peter 3 or 4 times a month. Due to the mispronouncing of the name, we have people telling us that they will never use us for car work, gates, etc. When we explain that the shop on Hello Peter is in Jhb, we are in Cape Town and the spelling is not even the same, we get a blank stare. Often people say "why don't you do something about it?" I have written to Hello Peter some 10 times asking them to add Johannesburg to the name of the shop when there is a complaint, but they take no notice.
In January we had the opportunity to buy some bankrupt stock and wanted R 85000 from Standard Bank. It was declined due to the negative comments on Hello Peter. The manageress at the branch said that the decision was made in Jhb and there was nothing she could do. So I showed her (she was very reluctant even to look) the reports and she said there was sufficient similarity to cause confusion. She even declined to mention this to the account manager. So I said that if a Mr Smith committed a murder, would all people called Smith automatically become suspect? I was told that the interview was at an end.
