Alright so what do we know so far in the Windows Phone 8 rumor mill?
- Three Lumia phones so far from Nokia
- Two from Samsung
- Two from HTC
- Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile will carry them (and Sprint too). All in the US. They say the US is an important market.
Not many reports are talking about the Atlas and most are hinting at 5 Sept being about Nokia and MS unveiling two phones. Thats the 'Phi' and 'Arrow' phones. The covers of two phones were leaked. And pictures of another phone's prototype were leaked.
So lets contextualise the leaks.
The 'Phi', the black & yellow prototype phone as per leak is the 'Phi' (largest (4.7") and it is the marquee 2nd gen Nokia WP phone i.e WP8 phone). The 'Arrow' is the one with the second largest screen 4.3" and is a mid range device. It is one of the phones whose front cover was leaked. The one with the more rounded corners.
The other leaked front cover, the one with the more square like look is said to be a smaller phone estimated to be 4.0". This is the one for which we have the least amount of information. I have done a little bit of digging around and here is what I speculate on the rumored device:
- It will be released/unveiled after the other other two have been unveiled, possibly in October
- The fact that it has been spoken about less could mean that it is the one that was last to be finalised for production. In my opinion this seems true and that is because I believe in the suspicion that MS and Nokia are working on a gaming phone to utilize WP8's SmartGlass technology, which works through Xbox.
- Verizon will carry the 'Atlas' phone only (no other Nokia WP8 devices). Verizon is the USA's largest mobile phone network. This brings me to the suspicion that the 'Atlas', although it is the smallest of the three phones we've heard of so far, it is by no means a low end phone. It is more a 'youthcentric' niche market phone, which emphasizes gaming. Further, it is the phone that is speculated to have the 41mp camera (PureView). This would make sense as it is the youth who often use their camera phones more than the older users. Further, MS wants to regain the chique status it once had so targeting the youth would make absolute sense as a way of achieving this goal.

Summary: Nokia Lumia 'Atlas' = Gaming Phone, PureView, Youth Oriented, 4".
