Anyone going to 'upgrade' to windows vista?

Im so board of the look and feel of Xp.
Just to have a change would be refreshing enough.
Besides having proper 64bit compatabality might bring more people onboard.
And DirectX 10 which will only be supported in vista might bring on new gamers.
Microsoft knows what thier mistakes was when the made xp. They made everything almost as compatable for Win98. This time they not gonna go as far so this time user will feel left behind.
Its a clever move. Those Bastards are gonna make loads of $$.
Unless they crack it like they did XP

Yes, i think alot of people are bored with the Traditional XP look, that's why you get skinning apps to change the mood of a little. Its a pitty once can't remold the start button location etc a little and some functionality.
I don't think Microsoft made a mistake making XP - XP has been one of the most successful operating systems to date - LOVE it, yes compatability is a little bit more 98 orientated but is as you say - to get people to move to XP.
Vista is definately more fussy - with good reason and yea, people will feel left behind and would eventually upgrade. I must say tho - i find it a little bit user unfriendly at this stage which is going against what microsoft was aiming for. Unless my skills are moving backwards and not forward
Something they have tried in the past with 98, and now again with Vista - is having that annoying toolbar floating on your screen / desktop - i REALLY hate it - and hope they will consider just getting rid of it. - waste of my time!.

I agree with you there. Ive played around with the Beta's and it feels like you gotta learn again how to use windows. But luckly its not too much different.
Give it a month and you MASTER of your own pc again

Really no compelling reason unless you are simpleton user that is so impressed by all that pretty useless CPU sucking 3D eye candy in Vista as .NET 3.0 will be made available for XP as well.
That's the thing, it seems that everyone is bored with XP and there are not goingto be many practical improvements. Are all future windows updates simply cosmetic upgrades. Plus you are going to have to upgrade your hardware significantly and maybe not be able to use your older programs.

i think for once i will support them and buy it
because i have never and am starting to think that for 1000 rand or whateva they will charge , its not that expensive if it lasts as long as xp around 4-6 years

But they won't charge R1000 will they? I bet you the normal 32bit home edition of Vista will be nothing under R1500 and the mainstream 64 Bit release will be R2000-R3000 and the business editions will be R3000-R4000.

I seriously doubt it, the average PC price will then go up by nearly R1000, unless you're referring to the retail versions which are always a whole lot more expensive than the OEM versionsteraside said:

Well I hope this is true at least, please note it's only speculation from me. Microsoft needs to create a target of R10000 per second so Bill Gates can become the ruler of the world, and by increasing cost to Vista, that will be the way to do it
