Again, not a classic. But a wins a win. And top of the group is top of the group :)
 
Well, Sweden didnt manage to beat them and they only had ten men for half the game...

But yes, England must and will improve in the next round of matches
 
Thank god for John Terry - if there was a man of the match for world cup football, he would be it.

When Rooney came on, it was surely a moral boost, but it was Lennon who shined BIG time.

We'll see, but the way it's going now, I can't see England going all the way - they will get through to the Semi's if they are lucky, but the bottom line so far is "predictable"

I can't see them bettering Brazil or Argentina and I reckon from a European style, Germany are more disciplined and original.

But hey, this is the World Cup, where ANYTHING can happen - it's as much down to luck as it is skill.

England so far? - not very inspiring and that's from the mouths of the English themselves.
 
England huffed and puffed until the conservative Eriksson brought in the exciting Aaron Lennon, It was also evident that Eriksson's tactics have shackled one of England's best sources of goals in Steven Gerrard, he's made to sit in deep defensive position in favor of the spoilt Frank Lampard who hardly made any impact the whole game.

Even if Eriksson can get his tactics right England are not Champion material and would be lucky to reach the quarterfinals.

I disagree, they have the right players, but need to get them in the right order. Lampard should definately be put on the bench, his performance was lack lustre.
England also need to break with the predictable, with Lennon, Rooney, Gerard and Beckham they can do that.
They also have a solid defence with John Terry leading the way.

England are warming up and if they can get rid of the predictable formations, they will be a force to be reckoned with.

In the grand scheme of things, there is luck involved, there's no doubt about that, so many of the teams are evenly matched, but what counts on the day is inventive and unpredictable play. If England can do that, which I think they can, then they could be champions.

Beckham is on form with his ball placement, big time and Lennon showed how brilliantly he plays on the line - it's all down to Rooney, Gerard and Crouch to use the brilliantly placed balls to score, with Lampard out of the way, they can do it.

So, I'd agree with you about Lampard, they definately need him out of the way to stop him spoiling great chances with totally wild shots at goal.
Having said that, I'm not really sure Crouch has what it takes either - hard to say. He's messed up some great opportunities so far, some really easy shots.

Hmmm, we'll see.

Indeed. Lampard had the worst game i have even seen him have. If he had been wearing a chelsea shirt he'd've had a hatttick!

As for crouch. Well he should stick to what he is good at and stop pretending that he is something he is not. Like taking down that cross instead of trying to scissors kick it in on the volly. And as for that bicycle attempt- leave that to the people that can do it- like brazil!

At least he used his height and scored with a header! :)

Good points but invention and unpredictability are a natural way of playing for the likes of Argentina, Brazil, and Ecuador whereas England have to try and play that way.

In addition there's Italy, Czech Republic, and Spain, all better than England in my opinion. But since they are going to meet either Germany or Ecuador in the next round I just hope for their sake it's Germany because against Ecuador England will be overwhelming favorites and therefore defeat would be more embarassing and dissapointing than if it was against Germany.

I also think England stand a better chance against the hosts than against Ecuador. Ecuador is a very good team though not a big name.
