During an ordinary council meeting this week, city officials failed to explain the whereabouts of this money, leaving councillors to put the blame on “a big mouse”.

A report on the rollover adjustment budget was presented in council on Tuesday, but councillors were shocked that the R6-million donated by the European Union to refurbish the Mdantsane pool, was not reflected.

Politicians were also surprised that a R2-million budget to furnish councillors’ offices, was reflected as R1.79-million on the report, leaving questions on the whereabouts of the rest of the money.

However, ANC councillor Sakhumzi Caga laid the blame of the missing of funds on a mouse.

It's like "the dog ate my homework" except instead of a dog, it's a mouse and instead of homework, it's money.
 
It's burning a hole in somebody's pocket.... start looking at the top and work your way down.
 
And to think IDIOTS like this are running the country. FFS blame rabbits / mice whatever you want we all know you and your comrades are stealing it.

And yet they are voted in to power year after year. Incompetent, thieves the whole lot of them.

Mice? Mice?! FFS the best you could come up with is mice?

I think I am more upset that the best excuse they had was that it was a mouse than that they stole the cash. If that is the mental fortitude of our local politicians than anyone fresh out of primary school could do the job.

Its not as if a couple million rands worth of R200 notes were sitting at the bottom of a cupboard

unless he was referring to digital mice! :)
 
Probably blaming a "Wit muis"

Where is the old way of doing it. Two signitures to a cheque?
Put the money in an account, give two people responsibilty of that account. If money goes out, both signitures and a paper trail of who took the money. Signiture of that person....etc, etc.

Then at least you can follow the paper trail and charge the person where the paper trail ends. The truth will come out.
