According to Neowin, the reliable Windows rumor source, WPdownunder, reports that Australia is in line to be part of the Microsoft Surface tablet launch on the 26th of next month.

Neowin goes further to speculate that:

"If the rumor is accurate, then it would look like Microsoft is preparing for a global launch of the Surface".

Hopes for a 26 Oct launch or at least an early retail availability in SA no matter when, as long as it is not 6 months after the launch?

I have just updated the link to the Neowin story in case you did not see the actual story from the website.

Anyhow, my main question is, what type of retailers are they in talks with to make the deal with there Downunder? Are they mobile network companies or is it retail shops like Walmart (e.g. Game, Makro, Dion) or Incredible Connection.

Given a choice between getting the Surface in South Africa from Incredible connection or from Vodacom, I would go for getting it from a mobile network shop rather than a tech retail shop. Simply because there is a better chance of getting a good data deal bundled with the Surface from a mobile network retail shop.

Imagine a deal where the Surface is free on a R359/mth contract including a 2GB/mth data bundle and a WP7 device like the Lumia 610, 710, 800 or 900.

What would be your ideal deal?

We can dream, right?

DrJohnZoidberg..you're right..the little that we know about the hardware its packing is already far involed than the rest i saw on the market..

Im glad Ms joined in..my view on tablets and cellphone future is..android will hit a wall and die eventualy...

Same as Nokia with symbiam..

Ms being and Mac..leaders in computers..and now cellphones and tablets..
And with that doing a amazing job..so what im trying to say is..in the end i feel that Ms and Mac will be the top and best cellphone,computers and tablet makers..

Basicly..back to the old days :)
 
WPCentral says there is a strong possiblity that Surface might be sold in Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany and France because it appears on these countries' local Microsoft websites.

Further, they are arguing that this rumor is likely true and give it a rating of 8/10 on their "rumor'o'meter".

Well, if this is true then we also have reason to believe that the Surface will be sold in South Africa too as WPCentral says, most likely through retail shops as in the case with the deals that MS is making or has made in Australia.

Why should we also suspect SA retail (Incredible Connection, Game, Makro, Hi-fi Corp etcetera) availability?

Surface is also listed on the SA Microsoft website just like on the European sites

Now, to debunk this seeming myth. The mere fact that it is available on the SA MS website in itself is enough for me to disregard any speculation of larger worldwide availability than we already know. WPCentral themselves give reasons why this might be a false alarm.

I really don't know why WPCentral have given this rumor a rating of 8 basing it only on a listing on the website.

Lets ignore this one till further information pops up.

I rate the rumor 4/10.
