My dad recently reinstalled his PC and now he can't get the IDSN modem working, he called telkom business division and they said sorry they can't help him because it's a hardware problem.
How can they not help him, he got the line, the modem and the software from telkom. Is there a special number for the helpdesk? Maybe be had the wrong one?
Thanks,
Patrick

Since when do you get unlimited tech support from any company ???.
Not even Microsoft will be interested in your woes even if you bought XP from them all legit and have a problem a few months later.
The modem is likely internal or USB ... he needs to install the driver for it ... even you can do that.

Well it's not that we've only bought the product, but also the service. I've used worldonline and vodacom 3g, and gprs via a cellphone and they've always talked me through everything step by step to get up and running. Telkom has given him the run around and asked him to call 3 different numbers, 2 come up with a message which says the number no longer exists, the third was a fax machine...
But I guess that's to be expected with telkom... The rivers installed no prob btw, but now telkom says they tested the line from their side and it's faulty and will send someone out, but if it isn't then he will have to pay for it...

When we had problems with ISDN I would call the help line and inevitably would be told the same thing. I would ask what the fee was if we ended up paying for it and was given a figure. Then when the tecchie came out, before he looked at it I would ask what the fee was if it turned out to be OUR problem and was given a totally different figure. So in the end, we played the game of phoning at different times and got about 5 completely different call out fees and I would tell each tecchie on his arrival that it was a Joke and as a result was never charged anything at all. I suggest you write down the tecchies name and ask him BEFORE he looks at your problem what the call out fee will be. If they cant agree with their own operators on a set fee then laugh it off.
