Apple reportedly order over 10 million iPad Minis

My ideal iPad/tablet would have the following characteristics:

1) 8" roughly
2) Retina quality display
3) Using the anodized aluminum construction that's found in the iPhone5.

The iPad Mini looks to have 2 of the 3 criteria. So maybe I'll wait for gen2 when they get retina displays out of the door. 1024 doesn't cut the mustard anymore.

I prefer the 9.7inch/10inch categories when it comes to tablets anything smaller is just too small.

But I suppose thats just personal preference,what I cant understand is why you would want that anodized aluminium that scratches easily and sometimes comes chipped from the factory?

I quite like the current ipad 2/3 build quality especially the aluminium back and the retina display is awesome also.In fact those two things are what sets the ipad apart from other tablets like galaxy tab etc....
 
The anodized aluminum is beautiful. I'm not that worried about scratching. Check out this mockup of the leaked iPad Mini components:

$250 for a 16gb model seems like a reasonable amount for the iPad Mini imo. For the rest I really don't know, if it's using A6 it will be easily as fast.

I agree. I own an iPad 1st gen and a 3rd generation and they both have leather covers which make them more comfortable to hold.
Any fancy aluminium is not even visible. The build quality is good enough, although they could be lighter.
 
After getting the Nexus 7 I can finally understand the appeal of the smaller tablet. (Unfortunately that is about the only really positive thing I can garner from my whole Nexus experience.)

I think it's becoming clear that the iPad Mini is really going to be aimed at the education market. At say $250 for the base unit, it would make an exceptional study tool if they can get partnerships with the book publishers lined up well. Basically for Apple there must be a unique purpose for any single product line they introduce, and I think this is going to fill that need.
