Although an EDGE modem is a good idea... as a long term investment @ plus/minus R1000... its a bit expensive... you will find that most modern phones have EDGE intergrated as 2nd generation GPRS. I think EDGE was an equivelent to the 2G tech, it just wasnt promoted. Its almost cheaper to buy a phone, my motorolla L6 (piece of crap) cost R600 and has EDGE.
