Surface Price = US$599 with TouchCover

Microsoft has now officially revealed the pricing for its Surface tablet.

Interestingly, it costs less than the new iPad, spec for spec. While the 32GB iPad costs US$599 with nothing extra (e.g. the keyboard), at the same price the 32GB Surface comes with the touchtype cover and Office 2013 Preview installed, which you can upgrade to the full version for free early next year.

I wonder how much they will cost when they start being sold by SA retailers (web or brick & mortar) because at this price and the guarantee that you will receive your order by the 26th of October, I wonder if pre-ordering would be a good idea?

Note: I have tried to locate this information on the said MS website with no success.

Well according to XE.com, the $599 model's value in Rands is 5,217.40 so I will (to be conservative) add another R 1000 on to that.
 
For $599 I don't want RT I want full Windows 8 at least a dual core Atom then. You can get a solid laptop for $599

Hopefully, Acer, Asus, Lenovo or one of the others will come in cheaper for a netbook spec'ed tablet/keyboard combo thingy running full Windows 8. For me the ideal solution is using the tablet to read an ebook or browse the web then BOOM take out the keyboard and finish that speadsheet I was busy with at work maybe Remote desktop into my home PC and start that download of the latest episode or whatever so its ready when I get home. I also want 5hour+ battery life.

Gief all that for $599 or GTFO!! gief! gief it now!

I really really like the Surface, but my only concern is that it doesn't have an ethernet port.

At work network connection is through ethernet so no ethernet would be a draw back although the device will be for private use. However, given the fact that no Win8 tablets I've seen have ethernet ports, I just might be forced to adapt to living 'ethernetportless'. Which is not a bad thing - just the movement with the times thats a hustle.

So, I might end up buying a Surface tablet since it is one of the best priced Win8 tablets I've seen and I am no power user so RT will suit me fine - I already have an Outlook account for my email, which I'm already loving.

Seriously, no Wifi network?

Hopefuly Microsoft SA will become competitive with this as they did with the Xbox 360, lets hope SA isn't look over again.
 
Worth noting that this is Microsoft's entry level tablet. I'd wait/spend a bit more money on the Pro version.

Yeah. We are still in new millenium (Y2K) fever. Not made it to the first decade of the millenium yet.

Wires are the *ish.

Anyways, I think the ad has just shown me which Win8 tablet I should go for:
