Vodacom follows Virgin's lead

wow never thought they would go to monthly contracts? Virgen mobile is going to change a lot of competition here in South-Africa

wierd thing is since my parents are vodocom subscriber virgen contacted them with a msg to ask them if they would join with cheaper rates and better services Can't wait untill this monopely is over with telkom virgens gonna kick their ass!
 
See how a new player shakes things up? Now all we need is someone able to ruffle a few of telkom's feathers. Regretfully it appears the SNO doesnt know its arse from its elbow so hows about opening up that market?
 
we will have to wait and see... only time will tell. But I think they will turn arround telkom and the SNO the same way they did it with Vodacom.
 
Gee Mr Government person. Look at that. Competition brings about instant change. Wow, i wish somebody had told us this. Now where's my state sponsored S class....
 
This actually annoys the crap out of me. Why on earth couldn't they have done it in the first place? For 10+ long years we had to be content with what we got offered by Vodacom. Now, all of a sudden, somebody shakes up the market. Now they decide to change something. What an insult to the consumer.

Then again, it’s actually typical from SA service delivery firms. The moment you start to hassle them and throw your toys out your cot, someone decides to help you out. Why not do it right from the start?

Keep in mind that the tariffs offered by Vodacom are still not acceptable. That’s because we have been paying ridiculous amounts for so long that any type of reduction, weather it be R50, seems like a massive bargain, and companies like Vodacom know that. It's all baboon psychology..!
 
i dont wanna be negative, but i dont think virgin is actually cheaper than any of the other's. sure they got vodacom to do month2month contracts, but whats the big deal about the time of the contract. as long as they arent more expensive, which those studies have shown.
 
Too hell with Vodacom, they had their fun, im moving to Virgin
 
I agree with Icbxx and albert - I only hope Virgin stays innovative and doesn't get used to raking in the HUGE profits...

i kinda agree with that.. Virgin may try and make it seem very cheap, and to some people they may be a viable alternative..
However as far as im concerned,a contract with free minutes, free sms's and a free handset at a cost of less than R100 a month is well worth it.

So virgin will not be cheaper for every1, its mainly targetted at the high spending prepaid customers..

On contracts the may be equal but virgin is cheapest for daytime prepaid calling.

Also, say you loose your job after 4 months of being on contract, now you can just end it and wait till you have a job with money again, no penalties.

Actually, my contract will come out about R150 cheaper per month with Virgin than my MTN contract. R500 as opposed to R650.
 
Prices of the offering, however, were not available on Vodacom’s website, nor did the company provide Moneyweb with prices by the time of going to print.

Well... They actually did. I remember a few YEARS ago seeing their ad in the paper: A 30-day contract offering with a picture of a cut out phone (ie. no phone included). I again found this contract option a few months ago hidden away on their website (had to do a search to get to it). They probably discontinued it as there wasn't much interest at the time.
