OMG the blood is coursing through my veins!
Call Valkenberg because im loosing it with Telkom!!!!!!!

I moved out of my old flat last year November and requested my landline and DSL to be canceled.
I was assured it would be done......

3 months later i get a bill for R300 and odd, demanding payment for my DSL, from my old flat.
I called and told them i had canceled, the lady assured me i did not have to pay.

Yet another 3 months later i got a scary bill for 700 odd demanding payment for my bill(I never recieved as i check my mail from the old flat), and after a lengthy battle, they assured me that my the cancellation of my line came through on the 8 December because they could see i wasn't using my phone anyways and they had initially lost my order anyways, and told me June 20 previously.
I WAS INSTRUCTED NOT TO PAY THIS BILL, and the matter had been taken care of.

I asked for a name and a reference number which i got.

Two days ago i got a nasty SMS stating that i need to make a payment immediately or legal action is immanent!
I just called Telkom again and the first lady put me on hold, then hung up, the second operator referred me to the cancellation department informing me my cancellation order was made in June, and that i need to call the billing department again.

I called again and told them under section 51 of their own ACT, i have not received a bill or have been told via email or SMS of the amount of money i owe because according to the lady i called 3 months earlier, i was instructed not to pay!

R903 is what i have to pay now, i have been escalated to the supervisor who will call me tomorrow, informing me of what i action i need to take.

I want to take this to court, i feel my rights have been infringed, i was misinformed and lied to repeatedly.

Do i have a chance without a lawyer?

Is there anything else i can do to fight this horrible company who has made me stress over an issue i thought was dealt with?

Im GATVOL, and at wits end, i wanna fight them!

Please advise, and i will appreciate any helpful advice.

Yours very, very irritated, Demon Angel.

Visit a Telkom Direct shop and don't leave until it's sorted, I gave up with the Call Centre ages ago.

You can take them to court but they will bleed you dry with the appeals etc. Your best bet is the consumer counsel or the CPA.

I hope you wrote down the names of the people you spoke to.

I had a similar situation and only found out 6 years after a phone had been ordered and used, then stopped in my name and Telkom looked to me to pay the bill. Despite this occurring in 1999 (13 years ago), Telkom renew the blacklisting and I cannot apply for any Telkom services.

I found the Telkom shop staff most unhelpful and full of excuses (cannot access the file since it is too old, etc)

they apparently dont deal with billing issues and politely point you to the phone in the store to call the call centre.

See MickeyD's link. I've never had a problem with billing queries on behalf of my clients at the Telkom Direct shops in PE, maybe that's why it's known as the "Friendly City" :)

Edit: mind you I don't deal with non-payment issues or accounts which have been handed over.

Thank you very much for all your responses guys.
I WON!
Demon Angel wins!:D:D:twisted:
Cindy from the Port Elizabeth branch told me they are giving me a credit reversal.
She even SMS'ed me the payment references.
I knew i was in the right, hell they even told me they made a mistake three months ago.
Telkom is a very Schizophrenic company,
sometimes i deal with morons who don't speak clearly or loudly and are misinformed.
Or, i get highly intelligent, friendly people with actual people skills, who deliver on their promises.

If i did not get this right, i would have been in a heap of trouble as i wouldn't pay a debt for which i am not responsible for.

@MickZA, the people from P.E are so friendly, you are lucky to be there.

Im totally screwed!

They have handed me over after to debt collectors after this mess was apparently sorted out.
Calling them is useless as im dealing with stupid idiots who cannot even understand what im saying, no matter how nicely and loudly i speak.
What sane person can actually tolerate such incompetency is beyond me, because they don't have a F******* clue what is going on.
I have credit references, my proof and had an apology from them twice over this mess and its still doesn't even help me.
I got a call from NICS, informing me that Telkom have not received payment.
I hellopeter'ed this and didn't even get a response from Telkom.
Im lost, confused and and utterly disgusted at this insult of a company.
A schizophrenic company, who aims to screw customers over until they agree to pay for debt which they have not incurred and to which they are probably thumb sucking because they are on their knees about to fall apart.

DIE Telkom DIE!
WTF do i do now?

Has the credit appeared on your latest Telkom account?

If so, email / fax it to NICS and tell them to revert to Telkom as you have no outstanding debt.

You are such a helpful guy MickeyD thankyou for being here.;)

Telkom don't send me an account anymore, despite having my email address and email.
In fact they have never even informed me of my debt, they only ever SMS me telling me im in the ***.
I live with my wifes gran, and pay her for my ASDL through EFT.
Secondly, i have been given NICS email addresses to respond to and both of them bounce from my ASDL at home and from my Android powered by MTN.
I have even Googled NICS filled in an on line form, and cannot complete correspondence as they ask me to reply to their emails which again bounce.

I am stuck in an endless loop of insanity.

Dial 10210 (yeah, I know!!) and go through to Account Queries. Explain your situation to them. If they start humming and harr-ing, ask to speak to a supervisor and repeat. If all else fails tell them that NICS must PHONE you to resolve the issue.

Learned my lesson, when dealing with Telkom, submit your cancellation in writing to the nearest branch and obtain a signature on a copy of said letter as proof of receipt/deliver and follow this up by posting copy of same letter via registered mail to them.

No way they can turn back on that.

Yeah i got nothing left to loose, thanks.
Im just worried that since i have been passed of to debtors that they will now make me pay for their fees regardless the outcome.
