Uk Adsl Modem

I have tried to install a UK ADSL Modem for my Dad's Telkom Internet connect, the router is a standard adsl model. When I load it thinks it is a IDSN line, what could be wrong, Thanks
 
some modems come with two sets of drivers, either supporting PPPoA or PPPoE.
The uk uses PPPoA encapsulation with vpi and vci of 0,38, so that is what the drivers would have installed as (assuming you are using the drivers that came with the device)

Not sure what s.a. uses, but I would be very suprised if it was the same.
Let me know what device it is, and I can help further (i.e. make model, how do you plug it inot your pc...pci or usb etc) (you mention "modem" and "router" in your post, hence my confusion. which one is it? or is it a combined modem/router)

Sa's settings are as follows. VPI:8 and VCI:35 They are different from the UK settings.

Not sure exactly what wrong with your device and why it's picking it up as an isdn line. Have you tried reinstalling drivers? How sure are you that the line is not an isdn line?
 
does your 330 look like a bicycle helmet or a squid?
if it looks like a bicycle helmet...is it purple or silver?
because alcatel made some adsl over isdn modems...you may have managed to get one of those.
 
No its a flat router not mention of ISDN on box,I just can't see why it wont work in SA
 
The modem is black. Im wondering If I should order a BT wifi modem and send it to my Dad, they are only £10.00 over here. Then I would have to get the card as well.
 
Just buy him a good router like a Linksys or something, modems are crap for adsl :D
 
The thing about this specfic modem it automatically chooses which connection mode to use, you can't configure it. Your dad has to make sure he installed the drivers and software correctly and that he followed the wizards to complete dial up information, say you want 24/7 connection, the speedtouch faq says that the ISP should support it, same with dialup, run the configuration, check the diagnostics and make sure it isn't actually an ISDN line, is your dad computer literate?(no offence)
 
He can use a computer etc but when it comes to anything technical like this he does'nt know what he is doing. I can't believe it won't work in SA!
 
My Dad ordered a ADSL line Telkom would'nt install a ISDN line would they?

Maybe I should order him a wireless modem online from incredible, which one is the best on the Telkom network?
 
A router is best, it has to do with speed (you can set MTU and MRU values router specific) and true 24/7 connectivity, your dad could be confusing his ISDN line with ADSL, you never know.
 
No I told him to get a ADSL line, Telkom installed it pretty quick. If I one of these routers online how quick is delivery in SA, if I order now will he get it on Tuesday.
 
I highly doubt that he will get it on tuesday, and that's only one option for a router, there are many different brands and ones that are easier to setup, I like linksys because of it's features and cool gateway. If I were you I'd order the router tomorrow morning (S.A. time) and you can get it to him on tuesday with overnight shipping, check out www.bluesting.co.za for a list of online stores, I know take2 takes a bit longer than 3 days, so I would buy from someone else (can't remember if take2 has overnight shipping)

My Dad now is saying he wants to cancel ADSL he only got connected on Wednesday, he can't do this, I was shocked when I was down in April that most people are on dial up connection and I want it for Skype usage etc. Incredible don't seem to how much of a range of Routers and they are the only shop I think in PE that sells them. I wish I could get he other one working.
