Maybe this is old news for some of the forumites, but here goes

I complained to IBurst about the inaccurate bandwidth monitoring tool. It remains constant for days on-end and doesn't update to reflect the correct measurement even after purchasing additional bandwidth.

This is their reply:
------------
This consumption is session based and is only reflected on the bandwidth monitor once a session is closed, meaning that if the session lasts over several days it will only be reflected on the bandwidth consumption monitor on the day the session is disconnected.
-------------

Why should a client need to remember to disconnect and reconnect simply to get an accurate bandwidth measurement? FFS this is the basis of their tariff system, IBurst MUST provide an accurate, reliable and transparent tool to measure this.

Funny-enough, somewhere on the modems it has the following printed "Always-on Internet" or something to that effect.
Also on their web site, they list the following benefit:
"It’s always-on – iBurst provides always-on connectivity to the Internet, no need to keep re-connecting."

HAHAHAHAHAHA what a bunch of clowns

IBurst follows the path of every other sucky South African company - The path of least resistance (for the company, that is)

doublefrangelico - I hear you on your gripe and yip it is a pain that you have to reconnect to get your bandwidth stats. i was connected for over a week and the bandwidth usage hopped from 5.89Gb left to 3.2Gb left

their bandwidth monitoring software cant track "live" usage for the customer to see what bandwidth they have used but amazingly enough it know exactly when you have hit your cap and you get throttle. hmmmmm.

But i think you are being a little picky with the "Always-on Internet" bit. anyways my option.;)

your gripe is a legitimate one. but a minor one to say the least.

Isn't it just plain PETHETIC that we must live by the dreaded bandwidth cap in South Africa?

I dream of the day that you don't have to constantly check iBurst's bandwidth monitor before you go on the net, then have to 'measure' your downloads for the fear of reaching your cap?

I'm tired of it and it sucks.

*Sorry, I just felt like 'griping' today.

Which South African ISP have live bandwidth reporting?

I use DU Meter for live bandwidth reporting, eventhough at times there is more usage on the iBurst Monitor

A minor complaint sure... but it is part of the bigger problem in ZA
No client focus (partly due to consumer complacency)

The more consumer complacency with so-called minor issues, the more you are subjected to bad service.

They do not hesitate to implement company-convenient procedures which inconvenience the client because YOU have labelled it a minor issue and put up with it. So when it comes time for a company to decide how to solve a problem, they do not even think twice about implementing the company-convenient/client-inconvenient procedure/process.

YOU, the consumer, set the precedent.

The theory of what you are sayign is true. But I think in this case it is hardly for lack of trying. No ISP or internet provider have live tracking. It is obviously very hard or next to impossible to implement. I have no idea, but that is what I am geussing.

Iburst infact have a much nicer system that ADSL which simply disconnects you every 24 hours. I would hate my internet to cut out every night at 12 when I am usually still online.

Anyway, I dont find it much of a problem, just disconnect or even use your router page to disconnect quickly without physicaly disconnecting to get your usgae updated. Or use Netlimiter/DU meter like me and Native do.

Either way it hardly warrants such a "strong" (wasnt that strong but im stuck for a word) thread about something that is accepted in SA broadband becuase of our caps.

Now this is all fine and dandy but then I have a new complaint quite the opposite to this! Because my Iburst used to disconnect every night which being the happy downloader I was irritated the heck outta me because I do all the big downloading just as I hit my cap but if I got disconnected obviously I would reconnect to find myself at 64kb/s :(

So in light of all this, is the complaint merely that the monitor doesn't show how much you've used but doesn't take the bandwith you use until you disconnect?(which to me I prefer) or is it it that it doesn't tell you but still takes the bandwith away?

sorry, just got back from training so body all achy & tired :p
