SNO to buy R748m Eskom network

The sale of Eskom's portion of its full service network will be finalised before year-end, so the second national operator (SNO) will be able to begin offering services in the first quarter of next year, sources say.

Mad: good catch. So much for "SNO will offer services in the second half of 2006"
 
MaD : I assumed they were talking about offering services to the general public. That was always going to be around then. The services they are supposed to be offering in the second half of 2006 is to ISP's iirc and then big businesses

I dont assume anything anymore my friend.. it's not safe.
 
Eskom was originally part of the SNO consortium - (how then does selling their share make a difference) - once again massive loss to the south african taxpayer - we paid for the network - now eskom is selling it for a pittance = R256 million
 
Still good that the SNO is acquiring this network after they also purchased the Transtel network from Transnet. We must remember that the Government decided that Eskom and Transtel will not compete with Telkom but will be part of the shareholders of the SNO.

Not only did the SNO paid Eskom and Transnet for the networks but the two companies jointly owns 30% of the SNO.

The SNO already provides services in SA - to both Transnet and Eskom. All calls in Transnet (100 000 employees) are routed on the SNO network previously owned by Transtel and the same is true for Eskom.
