CellC’s USB EDGE Modem put to the test

I purchased the Cell C EDGE modem on Thursday last week and entered into a month to month contract with them for a data bundle with 1GB capacity. So far I don't have any major complaints with the service. I will however be cancelling or downgrading the contract to prepaid as soon as Telkom gets their act together and installs a fixed line at my premises(been waiting since the 6th of March).
Since installing though I have not had a single dropped connection and I could use the service to do almost anything I wanted to. It is true however that it should not be regarded as a broadband replacement. The speed of the connection does seem to have its peaks and troughs and the latency makes it unsuitable for any software that requires a steady connection with a good response time. Normal tasks such as getting e-mail and surfing the web however are acceptable on this service.
I think the pricing on the modem is reasonable and the software and support that comes with it is brilliant. The one issue I had this weekend due to a fault of my own was quickly and professionally taken care of. Unlike Vodacom where customer care can take in excess of an hour to finally get to a person, Cell C customer care immediately responded as if there was no queue. Technical staff also went as far as to call me back later out of their to check if everything was still in order.

Slightly off topic but it seems that cell c cares about as much for their customers as Telkom does.
We took 3 payG starter packs. Voda, Mtn, Cell C. Did the setup. For mms and lets call it wap. Both Voda and MTN sent the settings to the phones in less than 2 minutes. 1 week later we're still waiting for the mms/wap settings on the cell c phone

Well I am going to put you all off.
I have a Cellc USB modem and bundled software.
Since i have been using the modem i have had no problems.
Connecting speeds I can tell you are quite constant.
During of peaks I am able to download from international sites at between 15 and 20 kbytes / sec.
For the price that you pay this is not bad at all.
This is much faster than dialup and ISDN.
When using a DAP software I am able to get 25 to 30 kbytes/s.
Well thats only me.
