wait 250 hrs. 1GB = 1k MB => 1x 10^6 KB or 1x10^9Bytes =~ 8x10^6kb*
so.. 8x10^6/[250*60*60] = 8.88kbps.

I wonder what efective quality is of Telkom's international calls are at btw, is it the full 64k? or hardware digitised at a low sample rate?

*=using straigh kilo/1000 values instead of 1024.. cause that just confuses me..

I wish journos who write articles such as these would run it past some tech-savvy people before publication...While it's mostly right on the money, it does not make it clear that Skype is "free" if both parties are using Skype, only mentioning SkypeIn and SkypeOut.

Also, MWeb's new service sounds lame to me: I enjoy the use of my regular DECT cordless phone with Skype by the simple - and much cheaper - addition of a SkypeBox (R315 from nanoelf.co.za), a simple device that sits between your PC, Telkom wall socket and regular phone (wired or wireless) and allows you to make regular or Skype calls on the fly ... it's really simple to set up and use and works a charm.
You'd be better off choosing a cheaper ADSL package from another supplier than MWeb and combining it with Skype and a SkypeBox.

incorrect. if you look at the payment screen there is a option Global Collect. you fill in the details and choose your amount. you then type in your bank name and branch and it will give you an account number and reference to be used. (i used ABSA SANDTON CITY). you then either go to the bank with the cash/cheque or you do a EFT to that account with the reference. then after a day or 2 they will pick that up from their accounts and your skypeOut balance will be increased by that amount. it worked for me.

this is also currently the only way for people in SA to top up the skype for business section.

i agree fully. the moment you add something like mweb of all people, you will basically save half the amount of money you could save. why not go "direct". this is one place where you dont need the middleman :)

Why do you say that? I use a creditcard when administrating my group - always have.

mmmm i've been using c/card for my own account, will look again if its for bus. also. but either way we do bank transfer for the business part
 
I use voipstunt - http://www.voipstunt.com to call the USA (and many other countries) for FREE!

Calls to land lines in SA is 4.18 us cents per minute.

There is a new one, freecall - http://www.freecall.com that gives you free calls to many destinations worldwide. Calls to SA landlines are a little more expensive at 5.57 us cents per minute.

I use skypein for my US contacts at $10 for 3 months.

On top I use PayVPN from nukecap.co.za, otherwise the voice quality is really bad.

there is no skypout in SA. you can only skype to skype in SA right?

Questio to albert123 or anyone that used Global Collect, When depositing the money Where should the Swift Code go, I had to deposit some money for Google Adwords, & I was given a reference, and a swift code for Global Collect's Absa account, the code is ABSAZAJJ (which stands for "ABSA", "South Africa', Johannesburg)
 
Using VoIP takes up tons of bandwith. For those lucky folks who don't have a monthly cap, it's heaven on earth! I for one, have a 3Gig cap and any type of streaming tends to eat it up....

dude, you will talk moer long on a 3gb cap. our voip for about 20 users for a month uses less than 1gb.
